  1. OK the date is Thursday 3rd May at 1900. Bill Thomson is going to get the keys from Ian McGinty I believe. Let me know if you can make it Thanks Tony
  2. Glasgow CTC are organising a sportive/challenge ride in the South Lanarkshire/Ayrshire area on 3rd June. I am passing on the details as this may be of interest to JWCC members. Start Time: 10am; from Visitor Centre at Chatelherault Country Park, Carlisle Rd, Hamilton ML3 7UE (off A72 between Hamilton & Larkhall) A challenging ride for experienced cyclists, going through Netherburn, Blackwood, Crawfordjohn, Muirkirk, Strathaven and Larkhall Free Entry: the ride is run under CTC auspices in conjunction with Big Bike Day which takes place on the same day at Chatelherault Park (Family/friends may wish to take part in that event) For Information & Route Sheet contact: Norman Runciman 07925 309496; [email protected]
  3. Hi Folks This post is directed at the "30-miler/intermediate" people. Would anyone like to meet up to to put together a "runs list" for May/June? Probably looking for a minimum of 4 people. My availability over the summer is going to be quite limited. I would suggest the clubrooms as a venue but I am not on the "real" committee so we would need to speak to a keyholder (and promise not to make a mess). At the very least it will be an opportunity to meet up for a chat and have an exchange of views. Thanks Tony
  4. Brian - yes you can upload routes (in GPX format) from MM or any of the online route mapping sites to a Garmin 200. It works like this - 1. Connect Garmin to PC 2. Drag & drop your GPX file into the "Garmin\NewFiles" folder 3. Disconnect Garmin from PC 4. Switch on Garmin and select "Courses" - your route will now appear as a "Course" which you can follow (you will see a wee triangle following a breadcrumb trail) Thanks Tony
  5. Nice screenshot Brian. What software are you using - is it Memory Map? I can send you my stash of MMO files if you would be interested....happy to share...(if it's not MM you're using, I can send them in GPX format)
  6. I won't be out as we are going to a christening. Like yourself I have been otherwise engaged the last few weeks. You could always post a 30-miler/intermediate run? If you're not confident about picking a route I'm sure one of the other experienced people like Mary, Ken, Boyd or Bill Thomson will help. Congratulations on your baby news by the way
  7. Nice run out with the 30-milers. 13 bodies out in total, and nice to speak to a few people I haven't previously met. Garmin stats & link to route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/163621055 We departed from the original route at Dalry - left-left instead of a left-right-left. It was a moment of madness, probably due to solar flares interfering with my sensitive in-flight navigation system (i.e. haven't got that far in the new Garmin manual yet). The Gateside detour made up for it though.
  8. Graham have you a particular route in mind? If not would you like to join the intermediate run for the first 10-12 miles, splitting off at Kibirnie or just after - e.g. you could head down the B784 to Dalry then follow the route I've posted back to Johnstone. This would be about 30 miles in total: basically a shorter version of the intermediate run, missing out most of the hilly bits. Just a thought - have a good run, whatever you choose to do Thanks Tony
  9. Hi Folks Who's out on Sunday then? How about this: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/939436 ...we did this route one Sunday in September/October last year, in the anticlockwise direction, which makes sense if you want to hit the A760 early to avoid the traffic. Any other suggestions welcome - as always. Thanks Tony
  10. Early Spring bump. Still available! At no cost!
  11. Just 3 bods out today (me, Brian, Boyd) but a brilliant day to be out on the bike. The sun was shining, the birds were twittering, the dalek was glittering.... Still getting the hang of my new Garmin (it's like a toy compared to the old half-brick) but here is the route we actually did: http://connect.garmin.com/course/863537
  12. Had a play with a local PHPBB3 installation on my laptop. If a forum admin deletes member posts it shows up in the moderator log (not the admin log). However, you can selectively clear entries from the moderator log and then run this against the database: delete from phpbb_log where log_operation = 'LOG_CLEAR_MOD'; (Of course PHPBB2 might be completely different.)
  13. Hi Folks here is my proposed route for Sunday: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/939462 48 miles, 3317ft of climbing. No cafe stop. Back in Johnstone by 1245-ish I would think. Incidentally - I'm happy to "facilitate" by posting the route, but I'm also happy for someone else to do it, so if anyone wants to do something a bit different, speak up. (Mary and I were discussing this last week, I think she might be doing the route for next week.) Thanks Tony
  14. Chung etc I would like to draw your attention to this post: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6547 ...especially paragraphs 2,3 and 4. Why not get involved and help to make the intermediate runs what you want them to be? Thanks Tony
  15. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/939317
  16. I think we will do this http://ridewithgps.com/routes/939317
  17. Jonathan please do come along and don't worry about holding anyone back. See you Sunday Tony
  18. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/939408 44 miles. Back in Johnstone by 1230 barring punctures etc. Post here if interested
  19. This seems to be the relevant page on the BCF website: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/member ... -For-Clubs ...the bit that worries me is clause #2 - ...this suggests that as a club run organiser you are only covered if you are a committee member (club "official"). ...so as far as I can make out there are 2 aspects to this - 1. Individual liability - covered by the insurance you get with BCF membership or CTC membership, but not covered by JWCC membership on its own. 2. Corporate liability (i.e. the club and its "officials") - covered by the insurance policy referred to in the above link. I must admit I find it hard to imagine the circumstances under which a 3rd party claim would be made against the organiser of a club run rather than against the individual rider who had caused the accident. Nevertheless I assume that this sort of thing could happen based on the fact that both CTC and BCF seem to have made provision for this (the CTC "Organisers Liability Cover" is a bit more specific). I'm a CTC member so I have 3rd party liability insurance as an individual. If I'm posting a club run on this forum do I still need to worry about the "corporate liability" aspect? I'm told this was discussed at the AGM, does anyone know what the outcome was? I could not make it to the AGM. Thanks Tony
  20. I used to have the same problem with my Belkin router. Wireless mode was fine for home internet use with my personal laptop, but I could not get onto my company VPN when connecting from my work laptop in wireless mode, except by disabling the WPA security on the router. Presumably a problem with the VPN software on my company laptop, but I simply couldn't be bothered taking it up with the desktop/laptop support people so I used an ethernet cable instead for those occasions when I had to work from home. Hope this helps (probably not)
