  1. Terrible weather didn't stop 35-40 riders turning out for this event organised by Falkirk BC. 5 laps of a 10-mile course. I started in group 2 (of 5). They dropped me after 1 lap, then I got picked up 10 mins later by a large bunch about 20-strong which I think was groups 3 and 4 combined. Managed to stay with them for almost 2 laps, then somebody jumped, the pace picked up and I had nothing left - off the back again and rode laps 4 and 5 on my own. Ryan Connor was the winner and Stuart McGregor first vet (not that I saw either of them apart from possibly a fleeting glimpse when the scratch group came past me on lap 4). I think Ryan was one of the Ballymena contingent (they even had their own supporters bus with them.) A good learning experience for me - both of the groups that I rode with were very well-organised. It was such a blast I didn't even notice how cold and wet I was
  2. Well done guys. Sorry I didn't make it along in the end. Had a very stressful 17-hour day at work on Friday, got home at 1am and just wanted some family time yesterday. Maybe next year...
  3. I've just emailed Tom Forbes asking if I can still enter (the SCU calendar entry says no entries on the day but presumably that only applies to the proper races and not the diddy one.) I've given Tom my details and said I will bring my tenner with me on the day. Hope to see you all on Saturday morning then.
  4. I have a 700c rear wheel for sale, built for me by Alistair Gow a few years ago for my touring bike but only used on a handful of occasions (probably 200 miles max). Spec as follows: Shimano Deore LX hub (135mm OLN) DRC ST19 rim (17mm between flanges, suitable for 28-35mm tyres) 36 spokes, not sure what type Cost me £60 at the time, yours for £30. Comes with rim tape and a skewer but no cassette. Will go on eBay if no takers within a week or so.

    A Different Day Out

What about Sunday 7th October - there is a cyclocross on at Peebles that day (Haylodge Park). You could go down early and ride the trails at Glentress for a couple of hours and then do the cyclocross (£8 entry, MTBs welcome).
  6. Volunteer for timekeeping? I won't be able to make it.
  7. 5 riders took part, two riding as a team and three as individuals. There was a bit of a breeze blowing at the start although it seemed to die down once everyone had set off. Davie Raymond - 21:46 (PB) John (Robertson?) - 24:44 Mike Ferguson - 18:39 Frank Kennedy and Jim Daly - 18:05 Well done to Davie, who was riding fixed-wheel for the first time and knocked something like 2 minutes off his PB
  8. I will do timekeeping - do we have any riders?
  9. Kenny I'll gladly take these off your hands (whooops!!!) as I can do with an extra pair of gloves for the winter commute. I'm a sort of Medium-to-Large in gloves, as my hands are smallish (for a nearly-6ft bloke). Shall I come round your house and pick them up? Don't know where you live.
  10. I was planning to do the "Chancer's Handicap APR" at Falkirk on Sunday (the 16th) but I am now thinking of doing this crit (the 4th cat event obviously). In fact I might be brave and ask the wife if I can do both Quite frankly, I don't care if I finish last. This is amateur sport we're talking about here; everyone who makes the effort to turn up and compete is a winner
  11. Do we have a timekeeper? I will be in London next week.
  12. Forecast wind speed and direction proved more or less correct, according to my helmet-mounted anemometer...a good night for PBs. Davie Raymond - 32:26 (PB) Mike Ferguson - 25:15 Frank Kennedy - 23:19 (PB) Jim Daly - 22:19 (PB) Inverclyde Velo made a guest appearance, in large numbers (have they got Podium Girls at their TTs?)
  13. I will do timekeeping. Who's riding? (Good forecast - dry/overcast with 6mph wind speed according to MetCheck.)
  14. Free to a good home - one pair of used Maxxis Detonator tyres (700 x 23c). They've done about 500 miles so should have plenty of life left. They are dual-compound, black and royal blue.
  15. Who is going along tomorrow night and does anyone want to do the timekeeping?
  16. Meant to say what's the best way to get the £11 to its rightful owner. Do I send a cheque to Ian Manson or can I pay it into Kenny Steele's Paypal account as an additiona donation using the "Erskine Century Ride" entry form...?
  17. We had 4 riders tonight plus me keeping time, Stevie Blom pushing-off and John Anderson stopping by for a blether. It was a warm evening with a slight headwind on the way out and tailwind on the way back. Times were as follows: Davie Raymond 23:22 Frank Kennedy 17:34 (PB) Colin Howard 17:30 Jim Daly 17:40 Well done to all who took part. £11 collected for club funds including some money due from previous weeks.
  18. I will do timekeeping. Who else is going along?
  19. I will do timekeeping. Who else is going along?
  20. I have a 22" (56cm) frame that is surplus to requirements (it's steel - one of the SJSC audax/training frames that they don't seem to make any more). Also I have most of the bits to turn it into a complete bike - Tiagra STI shifters, compact chainset etc - all used but in good nick. Willing to sell frame only or the whole package. Will build it up for you too if you want. PM me if interested. Thanks
  21. Mike Ferguson and myself made the trip down to Moniaive for this TLI event on Saturday. The groups were age-related but we'd been told you could start in whatever group you felt most comfortable in, provided you were not bothered about being disqualified from winning prizes. I'm a Senior but started in the over-50s group... Unfortunately the over-50s were a bit deadly for me - before we reached Carsphairn I had been relegated to the over-40s and eventually to a small group of stragglers... It was a lot of fun though From a beginner's point of view I'd say it was slightly harder than the Scottish Cycling APRs I've done this season, although it seemed to be just as well organised.
  22. I will be there barring any unforeseen work-related issues this afternoon...
  23. Can't make it due to work commitments
