  15. A Tour de France yellow jersey, signed by six-time Tour winner Lance Armstrong, is the standout item made available to raise funds for the Braveheart Cycling Fund, which was set up last year to offer financial assistance to promising young Scottish cyclists. Armstrong’s signed and framed jersey compliments the many items to be auctioned at the Braveheart Fund’s second fundraising dinner, to be held in Ayrshire on 22 October. The dinner, which will include a mystery guest and the announcement of the Fund’s first patron, is a sell-out, but Armstrong’s jersey is being made available to the wider public, with raffle tickets being sold in bike shops throughout Scotland. Raffle tickets may also be purchased over the phone, for full details visit the funds website.

David Smith, the youngest rider in the race, tells us about his experienceof riding with some of the top names in cycling during the Tour of Britain in his diary entry. http://www.braveheartcyclingfund.com/di ... EntryID=79 Gary and Evan will be posting their own experiences soon. Due to an increase of items collected for the dinner auction we have decided to advertise some of the items on the forum to enable bids to be placed up until the day of the dinner, 22nd October. We have a fantastic item in one of this years record breaking Tour de France yellow jerseys signed by Lance. Tickets will be sold for this item at some local cycle shops throughout Scotland and directly through the website with our guest of honour at the dinner picking out the lucky winner. Big Christian

On friday when you left we did the Deux Alpes, that was also an excellent day because arrived on the top we sat at a restaurant and had a good sandwich with ice cream, we enjoyed it very much! And on the back way Doogie beat me in the sprint, he can really be fast! Ask Steevie about the way of dancing of Scott on music of the eighties, you will for sure have a good laugh... So I went back home on saturday at the same time than the others, was annoying to say good bye after these fantastic holidays. So I arrived home totally empty and tired, saw Lance wining again a time trial and then prepared my bike and all my stuff for the race of monday because we would leave on sunday afternoon. This race is the Grand Prix d'Ancelle, a little ski resort in the south Alps. This race is included in the French National Espoirs (under 23) Calendar, and is divided in two parts: an individual TT in the morning and a road race in the afternoon. I'm now last year Espoirs, and I already made this race three years ago when I was first year Espoirs. At that time I finished 52nd and last of the GC. The best riders of the southeast of France are at the start of the race. So I knew it would be hard for me to perform especially after a week of hard training in the Alps. So I was not surprised to see on monday morning at breakfast that a few riders of the race are said to become professional next year, including Nicolas Roche, the son of. On sunday when we arrived there we recognised by bike firstly the circuit of the afternoon race, where Thomas Voekler (maillot jaune on the Tour) become Champion of France last month. It's a difficult circuit of 22 km with three main parts: a fast and long DH, a long part on the valley road and a big climb to the resort. We would have to do it 4 times in the afternoon. After that we recognised the TT circuit, which wasn't the same as three years ago. This time it was 4,85 km, almost flat with a little climb in it. It pleased me quiet well. On sunday evening I was still very tired of the week and the road drives of the last days. On monday morning we discovered that we were only 53 riders at the start, but the level of these was very high. So after a not to big breakfast we started the warming up with the four other guys of my club, the Velo Sport Hyérois, and recognised again the circuit. I have totally no TT equipment, so on such a circuit I had for sure a real disadvantage, but I didn't really care, the most important for me is to give every thing of myself. Then it was time to perform, I started as good as I could, felt not to bad, but then arrived the little hill. I just sprinted on it on a big gear but then I felt that my legs were not at the best, so I had to go on an easier gear, and that's always a bad sign. On the back way I kept a 52-13 until the finish line and finished totally exhausted. My time was 6'54" with an average of 42 km/h, but that placed me only on the 43rd place... which is not really good, but I couldn't do much better in this case. After the lunch I still felt very tired and it was really difficult to stand up near my bed to prepare for the road race. Nevermind after a little warm up we stood at the start for 88 km to go. My aim was to follow the bunch in the first lap and after I would have seen what to do. So we started by the DH until the valley. 50 riders riding at 10 cm from each other at 82 km/h, that's f***ing exiting! After a lot of attacks in the valley, we started the climb. We legs felt like s***, no power, just empty. But I was fighting to stay in the bunch on the steep hill while some guys begun to loose the contact. But on the last part of the climb, I couldn't follow anymore. So I get on the back of the race. That doesn't happen to me very often because I don't ride a lot at that level, so in my head there was as much s*** as in my legs. But at the end of the first lap I kept going on, and at the end of the third lap the commissaries asked me to stop because I was to far away from the head of the race. So that was the end. My team mates didn't performed well also, the best finished 30th. So really nothing to celebrate. In the evening I arrived at home totally tired. But I know that this training week and this hard race will be usefull for me in the coming weeks, so it's a bad result for a later good result. My next race is on a regional level, on monday the second of august. I hope I will feel strong. I can tell you in the same way my future results if you want. Maybe it can be good to post this on the JW bunch site (only the race part of course...) oops Best regards, Christian
