james-maclaren
Hi, I'm needing a short stem for Hamish's cross bike, maybe 32mm long would do. Needs to be for oversized handle bars (32mm diam). Either sale or loan would be good. He pulled out of his last cross race with a sore back. Don't want that to happen again. Thanks, James
Members Richard
I think you'll struggle to find a stem that short, James. Road stems are typically available in sizes from 80-130mm. It varies a wee bit between manufacturers. Some will go as small as 60mm, but that's fairly unusual. Easton make pricey 55mm MTB stems for oversized bars. You could have a look at them. Only thing is, when you use really short stems it affects the way the bike handles. I did a wee Google search there and I read that cross riders typically use a shorter stem than they would on a road bike. Even so, 30-40mm seems crazy short to me. Perhaps short-reach bars could be another way of solving Hamish's problem? james-maclaren
james-maclaren
Thanks for the feedback Richard. I have swopped over Hamish's road stem (70mm) and we will see if that makes a difference. J
