Jonathan c
The triban 3 seems to be getting good reviews. And with a carbon fork. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-id_8167038.html Opinions please as I'm on the market for my first road bike Thanks, Jonathan
Guest EPCC
Looks like its,set up as a tourer is that what you want also spears to be a triple chain set What you have to decide is what you want it for if touring general riding then fine but if not keep looking The market is very competitive at this range dechalon is a bigger chain in France than here so the bike will be alright if that's what you want

Life Members chung Posted April 19, 2012 Life Members Report Share Posted April 19, 2012 Hi Jonathan & Welcome to the JWCC, Are you ready to enter the dark side of road cycling from your MTB? I'm not sure if Billy have got to the right link for the Btwin Triban. It appears to me to be a proper Road Bike only with a triple chain set, there isn't any "eyelids" around the stays or fork to suggest its a "Tourer", and the shape of the tubes suggest the former too. Like you say Jonathan, its got a carbon fork too which is really good value for the price. I believe your budget of £400 is a very good start, but like Ramsay said on the other post, you'll need around £70-100 to get the accessary ie: helmut, shoes, shorts etc. to get started. So, thats a good price for your bike to start. The main thing in getting a bike (you probably know that anyway from your MTB experience) is FIT, getting a bike that fits you is essential. Don't take the frame size on face value, each manufacturer have different way of sizing their frames. The main thing to know is the "Effective Top Tube" length of the bike, this determines wither the frame fits you or not. As for choice, at this entry level of price range, you don't have a huge selection to choose from. But having said that, there are a few that you may be interested to look at: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165710 http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/product ... road-bikes I don't work for Decathl***, but its a great shop for cycling (or sports equipment in general), you can pretty much pick up everything you want there. Although you do get some good & some not so good products, the price is a big factor here. Of course there's also our sponsor shop Dooleys Cycles in Paisley where you can check out their stock as well, go in and ask for Paul or Ian who will give you good advice too. Let us all know how you get on & if you need more info. please feel free to ask. Happy Shopping Cheers Chung
