  1. Richard,

If you spent less time fitting mudguards and more time reading the threads you will have noticed that accomodation for 13 has already been booked. So unless somebody out of the 12 confirmed as going wants to take up 2 beds (perhaps one for the bike) you should be OK :-P

There is no upfront charge for the accomodation so no monies owing at present, from recollection it is about 70 odd euro each.

  2. Darryl,

I took a run over to the club rooms and the conditions on the larger roads was OK if you were a bit cautious and kept your eyes open - wouldn't have fancied it too much in a bunch though and definately no prospect of any farm watch special routes.

  3. Guys,

The original posting is getting a bit confusing, I have went through all the old posts and come up with this as the plan at present in terms of travel and accomodation:

CAR 1: Ramsay plus Davie, Kenny & Richard

1 x Triple room has been booked via myself.

Car 2: Paul plus Tom, James and Darryl

2 x Triple rooms booked via Darryl

Car 3: Charlie plus Billy, Martin and Al

2 x Twin rooms booked via Billy

So in total 12 have confirmed for transport and we have 13 rooms booked.

Is this right? Apologies if I have missed anyone.

Can all now confirm if space on the ferries have been booked for all, and if anybody is now owed money shout up.

    Cheers,

    Davie

  4. Just been catching up on posts!

Davie, sensible that you come with me, given you're only 2mins away. Any others from down this way needing a lift? 2 more seats.

Kenny C, happy to give you a lift, can we arrange somewhere to meet. Could you get down to somewhere like the south side of the tunnel? Did I see you had racks/carriers? (starting to lose track of all the posts!)

Once the car is full, we can book accommodation. Hopefully tomorrow.

    Guys,

Important I have now booked a triple room for 3 at the hotel. I moved on it as availability seems to be going fast, as this may still leave somebody short of a room I considered getting an additional room but the only one left advertised is a triple for one person (?) at 180 euro so really need to do a head count of who is going and who has alrready got accomodation before proceeding.

I will check posts throughout the day.

    Cheers,

    Davie

  5. After yet another enriching week at work the prospect of some bracing coastal air to clear the cobwebs is very tempting especially as the cross at Irvine is off.

That said the forecast, as general consensus agrees, is pretty dodgy.

Will follow the posts and may come done for a turbo sesh.

P.S. Would the Flandrians not laugh in the face of a wee bit of cold.........snow.......... ice even up the 20% pave of the (icy) bergs Oh ya dancer !

  6. Paul,

All things being equal I hope to be at Kings Park for the 'cross on Saturday so unlikely to be be out with the bunch.

However would be interested in your idea of a regular fast(er) bunch throughout December - I will look out for the posts.

  7. My tuppence worth....

I think (at least in the beginning) the short loops of somewhere like the Admirality circuit is probably the ideal type of place for faster paced, structured "training" type rides. My opinion is that this type of (training) session will only work if everybody goes along with the clear understanding of what is trying to be achieved and is focussed on improving fitness, bike handling and learning "race craft". I am no expert but I found the original "through and off" session I completed with Paul, Ramsay and Greg the week before a lot more logical than Saturday, as it was completed (at least for me) on pretty much full gas - I don't think everybody will be wanting to sign up for this.

This being the case I am not too sure if it really fits in with the ethos of a Sunday ride which is more sociable and leisure orientated as Kenny points out. All you are really trying to do is get people riding 2-up a bit more effectively and making sure that you can trust the wheel in front (and the one behind).

Re: Largs runs - there are loads of more interesting, scenic and safer options of getting there via deepest, darkest Ayrshire than the coast road.

  8. All,

Despite my protestations at the end I really enjoyed the race and drove home with a smile on my face. Results as posted on the link below. I had a disastrous last lap (mechanical) so there was a wee possibility of a top 30 place which went a missing but maybe this is wishful thinking.

Things I learned on the day.....

    > I need to fully commit on the first lap or more appropriately ride as if I should be "committed", I only "rode" the ravine on the last lap;

    > Be more forceful when overtaking especially those pesky mountainbikers;

    > There is a general misconception amongst my club mates that I am eligible for the "vets" category - I know who you are :-?

    > I could probably do with a few more gears;

    > Even "cheapo" Campag wheels really do look the part 8-)

Well done to all who took part - I'll be back for more.

  9. Richard,

A 9:30 bunch did indeed go out. Ramsay, Paul McD, Greg, Bill and myself met at the clubhouse on a fresh morning and headed along the track to Glengarnock, Bill peeled off to go on a solo run to Brisbane Glen - picked a cracking day for it - whilst the rest of us went for a short blast around local roads.

Highlight for me was a bout of proper through and off chaingang style riding around part of the Barmill circuit, it was a reality check for me in terms of pace and technique and for as long as I could keep up I really enjoyed it.

There was obvioulsy some talk regards this at the AGM but my tuppence worth is that more of this should be taking place and the Barmill circuit is an ideal local place for it - improve bike handling, discipline and fitness I'm all for it - who else?

  10. Aye cracking trip....much thanks to Charlie for organising.

Fantastic weather, food and cycling country even the ineviatable JWCC mishaps were a source of much hilarity.

I found my Spanish coming on in great leaps and bounds which was handy when ordering the odd bottle of vino red but mucho cheers to Matthew for keeping us right.

Look forward to more trips in the future.

  11. Richard,

It is probably immaterial me offering you a lift as getting yourself down to deepest, darkest Ayrshire will prove a challenge.

However if push does come to shove you can crash at mine on the Wednesday night - let me know if you are in a jam.

As for meeting up at the airport what is the plans - post or pre check in and when are others planning on arriving, I have been told it is 2hrs for int'l departures but this seems excessive for Pwk at that time of the morning.

Now just hoping I feel decent enough to give it a proper go on the bike!

  12. James,

Don't know myself but a description posted on the Braveheart forums is as follows....

Course is a good 'un. Fast and furious with mostly fast, wide bridle paths. Also a great technical section with tight turns and testing features.

There will be stalls, food and possibly a demo stall from Kona.

I have booked good weather so bring the family for a great day out.....

I'm just getting over a persistent cold so am very doubtful for this one as well -not raced so far this season despite all my plans :angryfire, but may go along to see the action on the day.

    Enjoy and good luck.
