  1. I should be able to join you on Saturday; but on the evidence of my 60-miler this morning, the full distance may be too much too soon.

Mmmmm.....the subtitler doth protest too much, methinks

Plan for the usual 9:15 at the club rooms, 9:30 at Morrisons - Mark will meet at 8:40 on the track.

  2. As discussed on the run today next Sunday the Scottish Cyclocross Champs are taking place on Sunday 23rd, though not competing I am planning to go along to watch so would prefer a long bunch run on the Saturday.

Who knows a Saturday run may also suit a reclusive subtitler who is rumoured to still own and occasionally use a bike ;-)

Plan would be long coast run - Largs via Bishopton, continue down the coast to Kilwinning and then some Ayrshire back roads back to club rooms.

    Post up if interested.

P.S. would urge all interested in getting along to Irvine on the Sunday to get behind the 'crossers, who knows it might generate more interest in 'cross at the club and start some focus in terms of getting a decent group training and racing for the 2011 season.

  3. Aye Kenny ... a shade over 100 miles, or to put it another way about 60 miles short of Flanders ;-).

In breaking news I may be looking to move house as it is the 2nd week in a row I have had to solo back with Paul McD an experience that would make an interesting Sufferfest video

Excellent run and hope to get out on SATURDAY next week.

  4. I'm good for Sunday, albeit the increasingly popular shorter run! Davie, 8.40 on the track as previously. No snow or ice this weekend at last, might feel positively tropical.

    See you there ....

  5. Billy, the coast run goes to Kilwinning and then up the Barrhead road.

Mmmm......I can think of one or 2 more "interesting" variations after Kilwinning when the time comes.

Agree long and steady is the way to go at this time of year and should be OK for Sunday.

  6. Chung,

Following this mornings discussions we reckon there will still be people meeting at clubrooms at 09:15 tomorrow and the way the weather is looking, overcast and rainy just now in Ayrshire we would anticipate the main roads to be clear.

Mark - I will get in touch with you in the morning re. travel arrangements as if it rains tonight I may be willing to give the track an early morning try out to see if the snow is cleared.

  7. Richard - good to see you are recovered and back on the bike again even though you can't make it Sunday.

Mark - assuming I can go the next 3 days without coming down with open plan office syndrome I will meet you on the track at 08:40 on Sunday to get to the club rooms for 09:15.

Will also need to keep an eye on the weather as some forecasts indicate sustained snow for Friday / Saturday, will keep all posted.

  8. With the plan of getting in some long, flat, steady miles early on is anybody up for a longer coast run on Sunday.

Suggest usual Largs route via Bishopton then carrying on down the coast to Stevenson / Kilwinning and then maybe some back roads back to club room.

Obviously plenty of bale out options.

    Pace steady.

  9. Plan on being there.

Mark - I will be heading from Glengarnock but have not been near the cycle path since the big freeze, so was planning to drive down I also think it might freeze again tonight - whats your thoughts?

  10. Yes, great to get out and once you got going the weather was not too bad.

Worst bit for me was getting home after bailing out at Kilbirnie, looking forward to jumping in a steaming hot shower and a bowl of even hotter soup - of the Turkey variety - only for it to dawn on me that my house keys were parked in Johnstone :madashell

Won't be out tomorrow but hopefully get on the turbo to continue the road to recovery.

See youse in the New Year.

  11. Discovered a gem of a link to a full version of the cycling classic on Braveheart forums:

Been wanting to see this for ages and it was worth the wait. Something very hypnotic about the long, slow build up, which is the calm before the storm. The whole package just comes together to make it seem less of a race and more of an epic event and this is without wet and slippery pave!

Highlights are of course the pave, the riders (no gel bar tape (or helmets!) for these boys), the organised chaos of the service and press vehicles but the mechanic hanging onto the roof of the service van looking as if he's just done a shift down the mines is the tops - risk assess that one.

    Class!

  12. Completed the bike build so am planning to go out tomorrow at some point - was looking at a later start myself so not too keen on the 9:30 meet at Bishopton.

Would probably prefer to stay a bit more local as something may fall off on the maiden voyage.

Will check the posts and see what transpires.

  13. Paul,

As it sounds like a "purposeful" run so I am dissapointed not to be able to make this, but unfortunately I am only halfway through building up my winter bike.

If there are no mechanical glitches I hope to be out on Sunday.
