    MrsS

My wife, Susan, prides herself on being a TdF aficionado. I arrive home from works yesterday with the WHSmith bag of cycling mags with all of the tour supplements. Kids get packed off to bed and we settle down to a read through the mags and I come acoss the Cycling Plus Tourology Teaser. MrsS impresses with her knowledge and we soon reach Q33. the converstaion goes: KennyS: Which outfit won the best team award last year? MrsS (after some moments in great thought) : No, sorry, don't know. KennyS: T-Mobile MrsS: What?! That pink one!!! You're joking!!! .
  8. Dave, We arrived about 6:45 rode out round the course for a warm up then turned back past the start at 7:15pm and headed back to Gateside, left one of my club jerseys hanging against the window on the inside of my car outside the Gateside Inn and then headed back to the start for about 7:25. We did see one girl on a bike in the opposite direction as we turned at the Paraffin Lamp on one of the laps. My apologies if it was Claire but to be honest I thought it was too tall for Claire who I think I have met once a few weeks ago on a Sunday run. If you had went a bit harder you might have caught us as you went round in circles .
  9. Following the success of the earlier event held on a howling night at the end of April, last night brought dry, clear weather with a slight headwind on the leg from the Parry Lamp down to the Start. It was necessary to restrict the number of entrants to 2 on the basis that only Derek McElhinney and myself turned up First time I've actually ridden this course and really enjoyed it although Derek demonstrated that I've still got some way to go For any new riders to the club I'd certainly recommend getting along to Gateside over the next two Thursdays and hopefully the numbers will swell to enable a proper event. VENUE: GATESIDE CIRCUIT Gateside is just West of Beith on the B777. You can usually park at or near the church / village hall. Start line is further out this road (ie away from Beith): you will notice a road heading off on your right with a notice about a whisky bond. Start is about 100 yards along this road. Route is along this unclassified road past the whisky bond until you reach the A736 (Barrhead - Irvine road); turn left (careful here - the A736 can be busy) straight until you reach Lugton and turn left at the Paraffin Lamp (pub) which brings you onto the B777 heading back to Beith and turn left again to cross start line. Lap distance about 6 miles. Race distance just over 4 laps (finishing at top of hill at whisky bond). Kenny

Congratulations Tony Hope all are well .
  11. Good call Derek, I'll be there as well Kenny
  12. Is the APR on for Thursday night? Do we have any details? Kenny
  13. Well done, George - a crackin' time on a crackin' night. Thanks a lot to Scott D for timekeeping. Hope your wounds heal up soon. Special mention for Jim Leckie who shaved another chunk off his PB. As for me? Well Kenny Mac has discovered something that is going to shave at least 5 mins off my times. I think I'm going to take the freeheel hub of my bike .

    Advice Required

As a new member I have taken part in a few Sunday runs and a couple of time trials on the Georgetown and Westferry. I managed to get under 30 for the Westferry on Tuesday night and was wondering how to cut another 7 or 8 minutes off my time for the 10, I was maybe thinking of shaving my legs but can't decide on whether or not to shave or wax, if hairless legs actually help at all. Never mind the pain of intervals etc the thought of some masochist ripping my leg hairs out has me whincing. The other problem is that my wife won't let me borrow her razor to shave. It's bad enough keeping the expense of this new hoby from her but how am I expected to hide the cost of razor blades from the weekly shopping too? Yours in anguish
  15. I'll do the timekeeping bit tomorrow night if someone can bring the start sheets and watches Kenny
  16. Funny you should say that Stephen. On the way out on Wednesday I felt as though I was chasing rainbows and had no chance of reaching them .
  17. Paul, Was that along with Ian, Scott and yourself?
  18. Can anyone shed any light on the four riders in the chasing group? I have a feeling that Derek McElhinney is in this group
  19. Well Stephen .... if truth be told it was warm and dry where I watched the race from I realised when I took the group photie that the sky was blue behind you all. I didn't have the heart to ask you all to move to the other side of the road where the storm was raging.
  20. Is anyone riding this tonight? Do we have a timekeeper?
  21. Ride in Reverse to Raise Money! 28th August 2005 Meet your own challenge and feel the rush of crossing the Tour of Britain’s finish line at George Square in Glasgow ! You can get the atmosphere and excitement of a world class cycling event at a more leisurely pace when you enter one of the county’s favourite charity rides, Cycling Scotland’s Pedal for Scotland! The event enjoys a change of direction this year as riders tackle a 50 mile route from an Edinburgh start point for the first time. The participation ride, now in its eighth year, had around 1200 participants in 2004 and raised more than £52,000 for CHILDREN 1ST and Barnardo’s , bringing our total dontions to more than £250,000. Brian Curtis, Pedal for Scotland chairman, hopes that the change will be the first of a number of developments that, as well as attracting new riders, will encourage previous participants to make the event an annual outing for themselves, their friends, colleagues and families. “Pedal for Scotland has always been intended to show that a day’s cycling can be enjoyable and accessible for people of all kinds of backgrounds, ages and abilities. We’ve had riders from as young as six to over seventy years of age completing the route, and it’s always an inspiration to see the sense of empowerment and achievement as riders cross the line at the end of the ride. Over the coming years we will be bringing more ideas to the event to present new challenges to the riders.” As well as a civic send-off from Edinburgh, riders will enjoy the usual good food, warm drinks and music at Linlithgow provided in partnership with West Lothian Council, home baking at Avonbridge Church, snacks at Coatbridge to see participants through the last few miles to a civic reception as they ride down the Tour of Britain’s Start/Finish straight in George Square, Glasgow. Once again, a bus service will be available to ferry riders and their bikes to the start or back to Edinburgh from the finish, although a few hardy souls always decide to make the most of their day out and ride back to the start! Cycling Scotland ’s Pedal for Scotland welcomes team, club and group entries (every fourth entry per team goes free). You can help in making 2005 another successful year for Pedal for Scotland . 23. The main thing for me is knowing what's available.... even a written list on the bunch somewhere. I'd rather spend my cash on some club gear than some pro-team gear that's going to be c**p or out of date next year. P.S. Stevie Can you show me that shortcut you took earlier on in the TT . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For all your computer needs, spares & repairs - PC Express, Love Street, Paisley 0141-561-0323 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
