  2. Congratulations to Aileen McGlynn, who has been awarded an MBE for her services to disabled sport in the New Year’s Honours List. Aileen is a partially-sighted member of the Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club who has truly scaled the heights in the last couple of years with the Great Britain Paralympic Squad, winning both Gold and Silver in Athens 2004 and a string of Gold Medals in the World Cup Series, European Championships and National Track Championships in 2005 along with her pilot Ellen Hunter of Wales. A regular on the Club’s Sunday runs around the West of Scotland when not working, travelling or competing, Aileen will take time out to be the Guest of Honour at the Johnstone Wheelers Annual Presentation Dance on the 21st of January 2006. Whether it’s wearing the colours of the Johnstone Wheelers or of Great Britain, Aileen has done herself and the Club proud. As we prepare to celebrate our 80th Anniversary in 2006 the Members and Friends of ‘Scotland’s Friendliest’ cycling club offer our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Aileen for the year ahead. 3. Best of luck in this Stevie A fantastic country to visit I've been around that area a few times (by car) and from what I remember the roads are in great condition and if you're not through forest then it's wide open landscape. A few up and down bits as well but nothing compared to the Bowfield No doubt you'll be riding down to the start via Newcastle and Gothenburg with your race wheels on your back and some Abba on the iPod Not sure if you are aware though that the Malaren is connected to the sea at Stockholm and when the tide comes in the route is more like 500km rather than the 300km advertised. Kenny
  4. Fantastic news Katrina. Better get the factor 30 out for all that warm weather training .

  7. Maybe you could serialise the book on 'The Bunch'. This would surely give you the incentive to churn out the chapters.of course you would have to publish the chapters some months in arrears just in case we ever catch you

  14. Maybe someone will do a full report but my abbreviated report is Quiet roads, fine accomodation, my first 'real hills', great climbs, fantastic descents (a herd of deer across my path on the first), 30mph tailwinds, 30.5mph headwinds, fresh food delivered to the door excellently prepared and washed down with copious amounts of well travelled wine, horizontal rain, even more rain, fine music from a travelling minstrel at the local establishment, more headwinds, fantastic company, a baggage collection service and a 'nice' stretch of the legs on a sunday morning before heading back to the boat. Thanks for a great weekend guys. Was still on a high on the way to work this morning To All, Get yourselves signed up for the next excursion. Details will be posted soon, no doubt. 19. First 2up of the year for me turned quickly into a pursuit as Vicky kindly offered to ride with me. I did manage to spell briefly before the bridge only to spend the rest of the distance trying to get onto Vicky's wheel A time of 20:08 was recorded (I think) taking aboyt 30s of by own fastest time. Vicky was obviously out for a spin at this pace but I have to say a big thanks to her. Sometimes you just have to be pushed that bit harder so that you mentally know what you can do. Jim Daly and partner recorded a 19:50 but unfortunately I didn't catch Amanda and David's time A big thanks to the GRC for the timekeeping and marshalling On a more serious note it seems that there may be trouble ahead as the police arrived at the end of the event. Although they did not approach any of us they had a word with the guy in the MOD place as we were leaving. I can only imagine it had something to do with the (attended) cars parked at their entrance See you next week if not before
  20. Vicky, I think Simon was giving directions to Erskine Hospital which is where we are starting from. We then head over the bridge towards Dumbarton.
