  1. New Scottish Institute of Sport cyclist Aileen McGlynn together with tandem partner Ellen Hunter grabbed two wins as Britain notched up 11 golds at the Velodrome as Britain's track cyclists enjoyed an impressive night at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester.

McGlynn and Hunter claimed back-to-back wins against Lindy Hou and Janelle Lindsay in the tandem sprint and then beat the Australians again in the 1km time trial.

Meanwhile, partially-sighted cyclist McGlynn and pilot Ellen Hunter were delighted to have got revenge on Australia in the tandem sprint final after the Australians triumphed in Athens last year.

"It was a more even race than in Athens and it was great to beat the Australians," said McGlynn. "We had some fantastic support at the Velodrome and that put a bit more pressure on us. They did a good qualifying time but we learnt from our mistakes and worked hard," added Hunter.

  3. Interesting post Stevie - the link is very good at explaining just what EPO is.

It's an interesting thought, is it not , that your ex-pro thinks that because he could not recover and complete the 2-week race he had to resort to drugs. Isn't the point of such a race to find the riders who are the strongest, who can recover and therefore who are able to win the race...without drugs?

Unless the whole peleton is doped, it must be possible to recover. You just need to train harder

    cheers

  4. I've had a call from a Colin Shields who works for the Herald. He wants to put our confined midweek tt results, and anything else we care to give him, in the paper. I take it that this is a good thing. All we need is a volunteer to phone him on the night - does not matter if it is late. Someone who does the tts would, of course, be ideal.

It would only take 2 or 3 mins and would be great publicity for the club and a great boost to new and old members alike to see their names in the paper - provided they make the first 3 or best lady

Could a volunteer please e-mail me and I'll pass his details on.

    cheers

    Darryl

  6. Hi Steve

thanks for your message. unfortunately the Arran trip is now off due to lots of folk racing - not enough numbers. So enjoy your trip and hopefully we'll be able to meet up in the future.

  9. For those of you not already in the know and aspiring to CG selection, SCU have detailed criteria for selection to the squad. This should be available from their website, but they have also sent me a copy should anyone wish to see it.

  10. Alister Ogg (VC Astar ) has written to all WOSCA clubs asking if we could possibly help with officials for the race. It is being organised by his club, but it is actually a WOSCA event, and technically we are obliged to help out, although Alistair hasn't put it that strongly.

We have a number of riders participating, but if any-one feels thay could help out - just for one day, then his contact details are:

  12. The Arran trip is ON 8-)

Weekend 17th April. Plan is to cycle to the ferry (time to be confirmed) and then over to the hostel at Lochranza. For those that want to, a lap of the island is then an option :shock:

    Return Sunday retracing our route.

All who wish to join us post here.

    cheers

  13. Great report big man. with all those kgs you've lost you'll be flying up the climbs if you make it over to France this year 8-)

The Pyrenees is the place to be though...

BTW. if anyone reads this and fancies a trip to see the tour and ride the famous cols, then a trip is organised for 2nd week in july. If anyone is interested give me a call. At the moment all details have not been finalised, but we have flights and a few days accommodation on the Tourmalet - ideal to watch the tour and ride all the great cols 8-)

  15. I think it is probably me getting the wrong end of the stick here. Stevie's original post mentioned the APRs and the TT.

So it looks as though the APR- as advertised in the Confined Calender - is not running.

As for the 31st - sorry guys - I'm away on holiday.

  16. So what's the plan? Is there going to be an APR on saturday at RNAD? How many laps? Is anyone going to do it? I would if we had enough bodies for a decent session. In the past few years myself and a couple of others have turned up only to find no-one there...which is annoying

    So who have we got?

    Kat

    Paul McD

    Stevie Blom

    Darryl

    Kenny Mac

    Kenny S

It's not enough - we need a critical mass - say 20 bodies.

so if 20 (or so) people commit tonight by posting here I'll come along.

    cheers

  18. Whilst the article is one of the most cogent rebuttals of the most common anti-cycling attitudes you hear expressed these days, I find that in an 'encouner' with a motorist, I rarely get to the stage where such eloquence is required, or even possible. :angryfire:rockets:uzi:angryfire
