  1. 2. Well I had to find a title to get you to read this... Just a brief report on the WOSCA meeting for those interested. Stevie Blom has been the fastest nominated rider for the Novice 25 TT trophy - congratulations! The new cycling academy is looking for people to go through their coaching training. The deal is anyone interested in gaining this qualification, which can be used for a multitude of purposes can go through this 3 day (over weekends) course for FREE, if they will promise to provide 6 sessions to the new youth academy next year. There will be no hassles with equipment, having a safe site, lack of support, child protection or anything else, because it will all be done for you. What more can you ask. It is also really important for the future of the club and of cycling in Scotland generally. Come on, who can spare 6 (?)Saturday mornings next year for such a good cause, and to have so much fun? Next meeting will be on the 10th of January. 3. Harry is having an operation done today, and will be moved into ward 25 (HDU) as standard after that (ie from this evening onwards) - visiting is pretty tight in this ward, and it may be best for close friends/ family to go only. He should be back in one of the standard wards (26 or 29) by the beginning of next week if not earlier, and I know he would appreciate some friendly faces there! If anyone wants more details, give me a phone. 4. Ah yes - my famous orange paint for the chain, and brown paint for everything else. Seriously, I am no equipment guru, but I would be happy to do the lobbying etc for facilities. See what enthusiasm there is from everyone else and we'll take it from there - we would need a fair team of people to run the go ride/ acadamy. Cheers Gerry
  5. Cannot make the Tuesday - Gary forwarded me the job description of the Equipment Officer (as it takes in the facilities remit) for any cycling academy; and if we decide to go down this road I would be happy to help out with this role. Let us know how the presentation goes down. Gerry
  6. Sorry I missed committee meeting - will phone re keys for velo meeting at 4pm tomorrow. Gerry
  7. Kenny - can I use clubrooms on Sat at 4pm for velodrome meeting. For info - Glasgow city council are looking at renovating track in Bellahouston into velodrome of sorts. Details sparse as yet - will be having meeting as above to discuss - all welcome to come along, but there is probably not much information at this stage, they are looking for support and advice as part of their consultation. Cheers Gerry
  8. Ah, looked in the committee section before this - so ignore my question about timing of committee meeting Gerry

    Velodrome

Dear All, We are gong to be having another meeting about the velodrome - probably on Monday (17th) night. If anyone is interested in coming along you would be made most welcome - my number is 01505 335371 Cheers Gerry
  10. Dear All, There will be a meeting on Monday 1st March at 7.30pm in the clubrooms for those involved or who wish to be involved/ updated on the longrunning saga to get a cycling facility in the West of Scotland. Following a discussion with most of those who were previously on the committee, it has been decided that we will meet to update everyone on news and to formluate a forward plan. Apologies in advance to Katrina, George, Tom, Sharon and Alan who I was unable to get a hold of tonight - you are of course invited. Although I do not expect a crowd, if anyone else is interested in helping out or is just curious, you will be made welcome (and I might even make you a cup of tea). Many thanks Gerry 01505 335371 [email protected]

    WOSCA and tracks

For those who are interested (and I don't blame those who are not) ... WOSCA meeting on Monday night was well attended with the following main points being made: - The Isobel McGinty fund will be closing at the end of the month. If the club still wishes to make a donation... - There are suggestions for WOSCA to purchase signage for the region to comply with the new risk assessment protocols - this may also be supplied centrally from the SCU - Jim Gunn is looking for reps from the West for the subcommittee for risk assessment - As ever there is a desperate shortage of timekeepers and commissaires - anyone interested should contact Gus McLafferty - Alistair Ogg and myself initiated a discussion on the lack of accountability of the new SCU board and related it particularly to the appointment of subcommittees. On the track side - we are still stuck waiting for the decisions on the National Velodrome. I will convene a meeting soon to discuss our options (including velodrome, 2 stage process and circuit) for after this. Will let yin and all know when this is happening. Hope to see you all out on the bike soon Gerry

    AGM

Sorry I missed AGM - I thought it was at 1pm, and turned up then. Could we please discuss at the next committee meeting what happened at the SCU AGM - as Alan will be able to tell you, our 3 motions were ruled out of order - the main reason given was that because we are now a company - we are unable to put motions up to change the policy or direction of the union. Also, the much talked about committees to work underneath the board have been abandoned. As such, there is still no implementation plan for development or facilities. I do not wish to put Alan in a difficult position now he is a board member, but I think we need to discuss this in the club, and possible write a response to the events. I know there are several WOSCA members who are very unhappy about the procedings, and expect they will be having a similar discussion. Cheers Gerry

    Good News

Lorna had a healthy baby girl at 4.25pm on Friday 7/11 called Eilidh. It was an emergency C-section, but both are now well, and Eilidh was 8lbs. Lorna is already desperate to get back on her bike, but will have to be in hospital for a bit!! Gerry McCartney
  14. I will be there for a while, but the wee one should be around by then, so I'll not stay long. I doubt Lorna will be able to make it I'm afraid - so just the one for me. Gerry
