The woman was on a cycle path behind Newton Terrace, Elderslie, at about 1300 BST on Tuesday when she stopped to ask a man for directions. After walking with her for a short time, he pulling her off her bike and into bushes where he assaulted her. Police said the woman's ordeal was "terrible" and asked for people in the area at the time to contact them. The man is described as white, between 25 and 30-years-old, about 5ft 8in tall with collar-length, greasy, sandy-coloured hair in a centre parting. This young woman suffered a terrible ordeal and is extremely traumatised by the incident Det Insp Mark McGowan Strathclyde Police He had a thin build and was wearing a red and brown long-sleeved top with black trousers and black shoes. He was also carrying a black shoulder bag. The victim was wearing a white t-shirt and charcoal grey trousers. She was also carrying a backpack which was black with blue piping. Around the time of the incident the woman recalled seeing a group of about six cyclists going over a metal bridge near to where she was attacked. She was also aware of a family nearby. Det Insp Mark McGowan, of Strathclyde Police said: "This young woman suffered a terrible ordeal and is extremely traumatised by the incident. "It's imperative we trace the man responsible. This area is a popular spot and yesterday was a lovely day with many people outside enjoying the sunshine. "I am particularly keen to speak to the group of cyclists and the family mentioned by the victim as they may hold vital information. "I cannot stress enough how much we need the public's assistance here and I would appeal to other cyclists, runners and dog walkers who know this area and were there at the time of the incident to get in touch - you may have seen or heard something important which could lead us to finding the attacker." Man held over indecent assaults A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with four indecent assaults on young women in Renfrewshire. Police said two of the attacks were on 16-year-old girls. One occurred in Paisley on 3 April while the other happened in Renfrew on 27 May. The other two attacks happened on 16 June. One was on an 18-year-old woman in Paisley, the other on a 33-year-old woman on a cycle track near Elderslie. The arrested man is expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday.
