  1. I'll be down in the Borders on Sunday doing the audax so Bill Thomson will probably lead Sunday's club run, I will post a route after I've spoken to Bill (he does not have an account on the forum).
  2. "Steady drizzle" a bit of an understatement. I went down to Miller St at 0915 and there was no-one there, not surprisingly - you could call it a mass outbreak of common sense Went out for a couple of hours later on when the rain eased off. Saw quite a lot of flooding, water 6 inches deep across the full width of the road in one or two places.
  3. James - when does Jets training stop for Winter?
  4. Hi I like to mess about on a mountain bike occasionally, mainly in the winter. I generally go to Gleniffer Braes, Muirshiel, Parkhill Woods or the Kilpatrick Hills but this winter I'm thinking of heading over to Mugdock more often - it's a place I don't know very well but hope to become more familiar with. Maybe catch up with you in November/December then? Thanks Tony
  5. Hi Folks thinking we might do this: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717393 ...it's 44 miles. Cycle-track, Beith, Barrmill, Stewarton, Fenwick, old A77, Malletsheugh, Neilston, Gleniffer Braes, hame. One "Hors Catégorie" climb near the end but apart from that not too hilly. The bit between Malletsheugh and Neilston is narrow, windy singletrack road, we might need to single up there. (Last time I rode along it I had a close encounter with an elderly motorist coming in the opposite direction.) The other suggestion I made on the "October runs list" was that we do a run down to Irvine for the cyclocross but being realistic I won't have time to stay & watch the racing and I guess anyone who wants to do that will probably want to go down by car/train at a time that suits them... We can talk about it on the day. As always I am open to suggestions. Thanks Tony
  6. Change of plan re travel arrangements, PaulC has kindly offered me a lift (again) so I won't be taking my car down.
  7. Got a reply from the organiser, see below: Hi Lucy I entered the aaudax on 9th Sep but don't seem to have received the brevet card yet, just wondering when they are going to be sent out? Must admit it's a few years since I've done an audax so I don't even know if you still send out the brevet cards in advance. My apologies if you've already sent it and it's languishing under my doormat or something Thanks Tony Reply Forward ReplyReply More| LUCY MCTAGGART to me show details 5:53 PM (39 minutes ago) Hi Tony, Yes I safely received your entry and hopefully you had an e-mail receipt back. Brevet cards are given out on the day but I will be e-mailing across to you the routesheet and info this week once I've put the final touches to things. Look forward to seeing you on hopefully a sunny autumn day Lucy
  8. Maybe you might want to move this back a week? http://www.ayrshirebeerfestival.co.uk/ ...you could always get the train home...
  9. I'm going down on the Sunday morning. Will probably be taking my car, giving my brother john a lift plus A.N. Other. I can carry 2 bikes on the roof and one in the back (wheels off). Fastest route according to RAC Routeplanner is along the M8 to Edinburgh bypass then down the A7. (I think this is the way we went before.) Paul, since I owe you a lift anyway, do you want me to pick you up in Lochwinnoch at 0530? We can then head up the A737 and pick up John at the David Lloyd centre (just off the M8) which is our usual rendezvous. I've sent Lucy an email asking when she's going to send out the brevet cards - I'm assuming no-one else has got theirs yet either? I'm keen to get the route loaded into my GPS even though that is probably against the audax ethic (electronic doping)
  10. As per September runs list: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717412 A gentle start followed by some hills. 43 miles, back in Johnstone by 1230-ish I would think.
  11. 2nd Oct Irvine Beach Park (Tony Carrigan) The plan is to ride down to Irvine to watch Round 1 of the SCX series (for those who have time), then ride back. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717559 50 miles 9th Oct ??? (AN Other) Route TBC Some people inc. myself are likely to be doing the Galashiels audax 16th Oct Fenwick-Neilston (Tony Carrigan) http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717393 44 miles 23rd Oct Beith Rocking Stone (Tony Carrigan) http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=296797 45 miles 30th Oct Torranyard-Kilmaurs-Dunlop (Tony Carrigan) http://ridewithgps.com/routes/795237 45 miles Mudguards required, as a matter of courtesy to other riders As usual this list is a first draft, I have left a couple of Sundays blank to give other people the opportunity to make their own suggestions. For example: Loch Thom-Largs-Kilbirnie Moscow Transmitter Hill Sinclair St Finally: British Summer Time ends at 1am on Sun October 30th. I think the tradition is that the mudguard rule comes into force when the clocks go back - as I have noted above.
  12. Looks like BikeRouteToaster is down. Not sure if it will ever come back I've uploaded the GPX file to here instead: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717394
  13. Since the Rothesay races are on Sunday (with the APR and novice events in the afternoon) and the forecast looks good I am guessing some people might wish to visit Rothesay either to race or spectate and we should facilitate this as part of the club run. I propose this route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/717394 ...anticlockwise...so basically we head for the coast via Kilbirnie and have a split at Largs - those who want to go to Rothesay can turn right and those who would prefer the delights of Fairlie Moor and the agricultural hinterland turn left If you follow the above route it's about 47 miles in total. NB we might need to single up on the Glenlora/Ladyland road - because last time I went along it there were some serious craters. It's easier to avoid them when you're singled up.
  14. John there were no hold-ups, only sandwich-eating opportunities Incidentally I'm not a fan of Gatorskins either. It was them that made me start using Schwalbe Marathons. Now that's a proper man's tyre.... Tony
  15. Have entered online..looking forward to it. Hopefully I can get my brother John roped in as well. I don't remember much about the route except that the lunch stop is at Etal: http://www.ford-and-etal.co.uk/

    Spied a Wheeler

Spotted Colin Howard riding along Ferry Road near Bishopton at 1830-ish on Wed 7th Sep. I was standing next to the bus stop - almost opposite the HP factory entrance - having just finished fixing a puncture (For info - it was a pinch-flat. That will teach me to be gallus about riding up and down the kerbs outside Erskine Hospital)
  17. Just a note to say I probably won't be up for the proposed Arran run on Sep 18th/25 - having already used up my quota of "all-day passes" for the month of September. I might be up for riding down to Ardrossan & back though - if others are riding down to the ferry - it could be a nice wee run in itself - back up via Dalgarven and maybe out Stewarton way. What are people's thoughts on it generally?
  18. As per September runs list: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=296797 45 miles, no cafe stop. This route goes up the Golf Course Road (out of Beith) which is a bit of a climb, but apart from that it's not too lumpy. Expect to be back in Johnstone by about 1230.
  19. Lovely day out today, 11 bodies plus a couple of unscheduled guest appearances from Ian Loughran. Some info about the Bealach Maim (aka C11): http://www.sportivecentral.com/index.ph ... d=5&page=1 ...and from the other side: http://www.sportivecentral.com/index.ph ... d=6&page=1 ...and here is an interesting page which explains why it is sometimes referred to as C11: http://www.cbrd.co.uk/c-roads/signs.shtml ...must admit I've never noticed that rogue sign at the Otter Ferry end... Got to say I'm glad we did the Ardentinny loop (some of us) - it's worth the short 20% climb for that lovely wee bit of flat coast road round to Kilmun.
  20. Gents Bill Thomson and I are now going to drive down to Gourock to save time so we'll see you at the ferry. In case of ferry-based mishaps I will PM my mobile number to John, Brian and George. Chung and Steve already have it Thanks Tony
  21. Pat I would like to have another go at the polo. If you're playing again this coming Monday night I'll come along. When do you think you'll be switching venues to Linwood for the winter? Thanks Tony
  22. When I've done this before it's always been clockwise (apart from the Ardentinny bit which is new to me).
  23. Previously there was some talk of a Dunoon run. How about this - http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=304161 ...about 60 miles, 100 if you ride to the ferry and back. Must admit I have never done the Ardentinny bit so not sure what that road is like, I believe it is a bit lumpy but can't be worse than the Bealach Maim??? Would suggest we meet at 0730 to allow plenty of time to catch the 0900 ferry. Any thoughts
  24. bump. Three careful owners, never raced or crashed
  25. Just a reminder there is no 0915 club run next Sunday - this is the reason why: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events ... -Westferry ...although I would guess the racing will be over by lunchtime so people who are marshalling etc should manage a run in the afternoon if they have the whole day. If not, maybe Saturday.
