  1. First game in approaching two years tonight. Was probably more bike maintenance than peddling but that's us off and running. A couple of folk interested in going to Kent in June to maybe resurrect the Barbarians joint Scottish/Irish team for the Euro Cup tourney. Anyone else interested?

  2. First game of the year Monday 28th April 6.30pm at Lochwinnoch.

All are welcome to give it a go, equipment will be provided. Soft ball used and not very competitive.

    More details to follow.

  3. For next year it looks like there will be Euro Cup games in England and France as usual but Evan Connon has posted on polo forum that the BPAI are looking at holding an event in Dublin for the first time in a few years.

I think we'd be looking at Dublin in April, Kent in June & probably somewhere in northern France in September.

    What's everyones thoughts?

I'd tentatively say I'd be up for Dublin and Kent assuming we can get a team together for each event.

Kenny is on the move again so his proposed tournament in Skye later this year won't be happening. He is looking at getting something organised though once he has settled in to his new home in North Uist.

Anyone got any ideas for playing over the winter or we will just leave it till early spring and try to get fit for Dublin/Kent?

  4. Hi Lillian,

    Nice to hear from you.

We''ve not played since the summer due to holidays, rain, rain and more rain. Too dark now to play at night. You could hand your mallet in to Martin or just hold on to it in case you take the notion to make a come back. Not sure if we''ll play during the winter, more likely in the spring.

  5. Thanks to everyone for making me welcome on Sunday, I've just about recovered enough to post. Enjoyed Sunday much more than I thought I would although it was hillier, longer and much faster than I expected and riding with two hands on the bars and no mallet takes a bit of getting used to.

Good luck to you all in Rothesay this weekend.

  6. Games have been taking place every Friday & Monday in the lead up to this weekend's tournament in Kent. No game tonight as we are away and no game on Monday as we don't anticipate being in any state to play.

We are switching to Mondays only from now on. Next game Monday 2nd July, 6.45 at the gym. All welcome!

  7. Monday games are still going strong in Lochwinnoch.

7 players last night (4 v 3) and despite, or maybe because of, the long grass a good workout was had by all.

If anyone wants to try playing for the first time or wants to make a comeback just post a reply and we'll make sure a bike and mallet are waiting for you.

We'll have a beginner giving it a go next Monday so that would be as good a time as any to get involved. Games are non contact and very relaxed when it comes to anyone playing for the first time and this continues until he or she has a lot more experience. You'll basically be allowed to keep possession of the ball without being tackled or pressurised until you either pass, shoot or leave it behind you.

    Hope to see you there.

  8. The Irish have proposed playing this Autumn for the Celtic Cup. The game is likely to go ahead in Donegal, somewhere near Letterkenny, so it should be quite easy to get to - ferry to Larne and a couple of hours drive on the other side. Format will be the big game first (soft ball this time) followed by some mixed team matches on the same day.

Not sure if this will involve two nights away or just the one but I'd think travelling over on the Friday night, playing all day Saturday followed by a bit of socialising and travelling back on the Sunday would be the most likely scenario.

So far it looks like we have six players hoping to go:

    Alan

    Alasdair

    Fergus

    Martin

    Pat

    Russell

What hasn't been decided is what weekend to go for. Can each player confirm what weekends they are available or, if it is a shorter list, when they wouldn't be able to go? September weekend is out.

Anyone else interested in playing? Let me know.

  9. Game on at Lochwinnoch from 18.45hrs.

This will be the fourth game since we started back up and we've had a good turnout for each match. If anyone wants to give it a go they are more than welcome to just turn up.

  10. Hi Alan,

I'm raring to go. (Maybe willing to play would be more accurate).

I've contacted Ian, just waiting to hear back from him. Fridays in Lochwinnoch seem OK although Fergus reckons he'll only manage every second game.

Might be a bit wet for this Friday?

    Pat
