  1. C'mon old foggies- we need info on gear inches allowed and also the 39x 15 type combos this allows- i think cable snips work better than tie wraps on the front shifter?

    Most people know the story..

7.50 fee goes to Riverside museum in some form or another

    GrAeme Obree

Graeme Obree achieved huge press and

media attention, when he broke the hour

record on July 17th 1993. This achievement

    saw him overturn Francesco Moser’s

record held from 1984. Following this

success Graeme broke the record again

on April 27th 1994. The hour record, known

in racing circles as ‘the race of truth’, has

never been broken more than 3 times by

    any individual.

Join Graeme at the Tramway Theatre where

he will be talking about the innovation in

cycling and the technology behind breaking

the ‘hour record’. This will be an informal

evening with the opportunity to meet with

and ask Graeme questions relating to his

    biking career.

  5. My school has a nice Scottish Exec (remember them) funded cycle shed / hangar... It's a site of vandalism and teen drinking and therefore broken bottles.

It has to go....... and it's way too big for all but the biggest gardens.

    However......

It has a few sets of Sheffield (inverted U type) bike rack modules.

Tubular steel 'u's on a rectangular section modular base.

I am grabbing a few of them for me.

They'd work well in a garage or secured into concrete

They would split into 2 bike modules nicely but could go individually.

If anyone is interested let me know asap as the demolition team will arrive soon. First come first served by Private Message

  6. Lesley that's an admirable philosophy!

More to life than bikingand the Marmotte training can be fairly compact any way!

Anyone fancy 3 hours, not particularly technical, from 9 am off road up the West Highland Way? Kenny?

post soon or phone me on 0141-563-8508

  7. I'm a fan of the Goretex race: (race power?) slightly insulated and they fit over mountain bike shoes;

The gore commuter ones are good too

Try evans online for last seasons Gore wear

If I was adding to my collection I'd be tempted by the Endura shiny neoprene ones.

If you get the Pro-vision aqua repel model bear in mind that its the outer sales packaging that repels the aqua- not the actual overshoe

2 pairs of overshoes with a poly bag between them might be good too...

  8. Check the BCD of the campag chainsets: it might be a funny size and not the 110 of the shimano compacts and old mtb:

on the other hand the campag stuff is so cheap that new rings are not much less

So what did you buy Kona? Major Jake? A Ritchey? Surely not a Litespeed?

Why not come out on a Wednesday night with the GMBC bunch? 2 or 3 hours in the dark- relatively technical- some crossers - some single speed etc good bunch and a cup of tea and a jet wash afterwards.

  9. 34t is not possible on a 39t campag:

from memory a campag chainset has a bolt circle diameter of 135mm, shimano road 130 (minimum tooth 38) and compacts have 110 mm which is the original MTB size before compact drive etc

The problem with this is that most old style mtb cranks will have a square taper bottom bracket. so they might not fit the fancy kit that you run on your bikes

In theory campag and shimano have slightly different taper dimensions....but not important really: http://www.highpath.net/cycles/notes/04.html

I was recently running an old campag centaur mtb with only the outer 2 rings fitted but the smaller was 38

Are you using a cross bike then or what?

You might get an old triple mtb set on ebay and LHS ergo levers shift over anything:

If you've got the 34 tooth ring and the square taper I'll lend you the chainset

You could also run a 32 tooth back block- i have in 7 or 8 speed
