  1. Well done again Claire. You are certainly not hiding away at the back or choosing easy races to learn the ropes! You've been up there having a go with some pretty good riders of late and are getting a bit better at it all the time. Good luck on Sunday. Cheers Jim
  2. Well done Claire, you're getting closer and closer to the finishes all the time. Certainly a few strong young riders in that race who would give anyone a hard time. Jim B

  5. Specialized / HED carbon Tri Spoke wheels in black carbon with silver alloy braking rim which enables use with standard brake pads. They are for Tubs. Front wheel was being used by daughter for occassional track sprint events and has been fitted with a track compliant axle and bolts. This is fine for road use as well however it is easy to change back to a quick release if desired. The rear is compatible with shimano fittings and has been used mainly as a stand by to replace a disc on windy days. Wheels are in good condition and are for sale for £300 the pair Cheers Jim
  6. High maintenance cycling brats force the reluctant sale of these top quality racing wheels. The wheels were used only a couple of times by me when I was a tad lighter and fitter.Until recently they were living out a quiet retirement in my garage until daughter decided that she was going to steal them for her road bike for training!!! Well not having that! As said, very few miles. excellent condition, super smooth, superlight and super stiff. Awsome power transfer makes for superb climbing and sprinting. Front has 18 flat bladed spokes, rear has 20. The SSC SL's are silver with black decals. They were Mavic's flagship wheel and were tour de France winners. This pair are kitted out with Black Conti Grand Prix 4000 clinchers and they ride beautifully. They really should be getting raced! You can make them yours for the bargain basement price of £350 Cheers Jim

Anyone know anything about FSA Carbon wheels ? Are they any good ? Cheers Jim
  10. Hi folks, track's much too scary for me I'm afraid. I was trying to gauge if there was much interest in track in the club as daughter Robyn is keen and Graeme wasn't sure if he was going to get sufficient interest to have kids along. She is also wondering if there are many youth riders in the 12. 13. 14 age groups in the Jets ? Lance, If you have not used a fixed wheel bike then learning that and how to handle a track like Manchester might be a bit too much in one short session. There are usually a few starter sessions held at Meadowbank and Caird park at the start of the season which would maybe be your best bet. I believe bikes may be available for loan at both venues ? Also, Graeme will have a plan to make best use of the available time for all and it might not be possible to learn the ropes if the schedule is a bit tight. Worth asking though. You will find him very helpful. Cheers Jim
  11. Hi Lance, did you get the Kysiriums then ? Jim
  12. Hi folks, You might be aware that Graeme Steen has booked track time at Manchester on 1st May. Details are on the braveheart site. Anyone going down?? Jim

  14. Dave, Sorry I can't help you with contacts as I don't really know of any who would be up for what would have to be quite a lengthy consultation. I can tell you that Kayleigh does a lot of the usual strength and power lifts in exactly the same way as anyone else. I am not aware of any cycling specific routines at all. Cycling coaches deal with on the bike work and Gym coaches tend to stick to strength and conditioning although there is communication betwen them. There is obviously a great deal more to it than just lifting heavy weights to exhaustion but that's where the skill of the coach and his knowledge of the ability of the athlete comes in. Again I reckon the way that the on the bike work is blended into the Gym prog along with recovery is also very important and can be a bit of a trial and error affair. I am sure that everyone does it it their own way and that a fair bit of flexibility will be used at the coach or riders discretion along the way depending on progress or lack of progress. As far as I can see the general prog in the Friel book I mentioned looks not bad for a general prog which might produce better all round fitness if nothing else. Sorry I can't be more helpful but I think you will find that it is a pretty complex subject and everyone has their own views on it. You may find that the Nat sport centre at Inverclyde offer courses for a fee or they may be able to give you a steer as to who else might ? Cheers Jim
  15. Hi Dave Just read your post and don't think Kayleigh has spotted ti either. You are right enough about Kayleigh training at the West of Scotland Institute of Sport but the Gym prog she is on is something which was worked out between her and her weights coach and is specific to her and what she wants to achieve at any given time in the season. I understand that that 's how it is for most riders who might benefit from lifting so I doubt if you could go down the One prog for everyone road as heavy lifts may be good for some but not for others and again will vary considerably at certain times of the year. I can tell you that using weights actually had a detrimental effect on Kayleigh's speed until she and her coach got to know what worked for her, so beware,as with weights, a little knowledge can indeed be a dangerous thing! The way that any on the bike work is worked intothe training week along with the Gym work is also very important and once again needs and abilities of the individual do require a bit of thought and care . As far as booking the institute Gym is concerned, I don't think that is possible. It is a funded organisation and only provides coaching and facilities for athletes supported by their governing bodies. No one gets using the gym unless supervised by an institute coach. You could do worse than looking at Joe Friel's book for a few tips for general weight use for cyclists but ti doesn't come close for anyone specialising in a specific track discipline. Hope this helps Cheers Jim B
  16. Yep, some excellent racing with the top three girls in the kilo all within a few tenths of each other with times of 1m 15 /16 secs. Faster than many male riders and with some amazing 500 splits too. Kayleigh took third in that event and a fourth in the Kierin. I think she was sitting in fifth overall until the final event , a forty lap points race, which she didn't ride due to a nosebleed and so she got hammered with max penalty points and nosedived down the table. A good warm up for the Nats next week! Does everyone know that there is a fairly regular fixed wheel session on at Bellahouston where Rab Wardell and an able accomplice are teaching the kids the basics to get then into the races at Dundee and Meadowbank ? It's not too fast so the risks on the Bellahouston 'go kart track' are minimised. There are already a few youngsters from 'the West' racing track leagues and the like and just like Sarah they are doing really well. I have taken Robyn (11yrs ) along a few times and she seems to be enjoying it. She has since been able to race the Dundee track league in her big sisters old JWCC Skinsuit. No traffic , good coaches and good fun so c'mon folks get them into it!
  17. Nice one Aileen. Seems to be becoming a habit !! Good luck with the rest of your events. Cheers Jim B

    Not Guilty

Nice one Simon. It is often said that it can be a long hard road to justice but really glad to hear you got there in the end Cheers Jim B
  22. Guys, Kayleigh isn't here to reply to your postings as she left to race a few cobbled Kermesses in Belgium with the Braveheart squad immediately after the Track Champs. However I can tell you that the racing was pretty challenging with the three top girls posting times which were faster than the majority of the male riders and also a good few of the under 16 females into the bargain !!! She is delighted with her medal and I am sure she will appreciate your kind comments on reading the bunch when she gets back home. Hope to get some time to get out this winter again so see you then. Cheers Jim B
