Dear all
It looks as if this could be the closest run club 10 champs for some time Less than 20 secs seperated Dave Leonard, Alan Holmes and Ian Manson at the open 10 on Sunday. Add to that defending champ George Hamilton, returnee Gary MacFarlane (21.18 last Wednesday), and the Scottish Ladies 10 mile record holder then it looks as if the tarmac could be red hot. Don't forget there's a handicap prize too so lots to play for for the lesser mortals too - in fact fun and room for everyone.
Hope to see you there (but my work load for tomorrow makes it look a bit dodgy ). Even if you're not planning to race (why not?) then come along and see what it's all about. Do we have a time keeper?
Cheers
SH
PS for those that don't know - start line is under the railway bridge on the road from Bishopton just before the roundabout up to the A8 towards Port Glasgow. There' s parking (limited) on the other side of the roundabout with a lovely view of the Clyde.

Hi Alan
League ten is a series of ten mile individual time trial races over the course of the season. There are seven races in total. In addition there is the club 10 mile tt championship held this year on Tues 23rd May (The "Frank Lauder"). If I remember correctly the league ten is a handicapped league and as such is absolutely suited for all club members, young, old, new, slow and fast. There are prizes for both the league ten and the Frank Lauder at the annual presentation dance.
The course is the West Ferry course. The start is under the railway bridge on the A8 at the roundabout at the end of the M8 (signpost Bishopton - this is the roundabout which seperates the M8 from its continuation as the A8). Course goes up onto the dual carriageway straight through first roundabout at Langbank, straight through second roundabout (Woodhall) and turn at third roundabout (Newark). Retrace to exit for Bishopton finishing on off ramp (do not miss this turn off or you will then be on the motorway!)
Hope you can make it.
Cheers

PS for future reference some nokia phones have got an excellent stopwatch with split time function which is very useful if no-one has the stop watches with them!

I'm planning to come along to this tonight if I get away from work on time. If I don't have time to go home and get the bike first I'll time keep. One of my work colleagues may turn up as a guest. His name's Callum - if I don't make it can someone look out for him and point him in the right direction?
Cheers

I've lifted this from elsewhere:
Gateside is just East of Beith on the B777. You can usually park at or near the church / village hall. Start line is further out this road (ie away from Beith): you will notice a road heading off on your right with a notice about a whisky bond. Start is about 100 yards along this road. Route is along this unclassified road past the whisky bond until you reach the A736 (Barrhead - Irvine road); turn left (careful here - the A736 can be busy) straight until you reach Lugton and turn left at the Paraffin Lamp (pub) which brings you onto the B777 heading back to Beith and turn left again to cross start line. Lap distance about 6 miles. Race distance just over 4 laps (finishing at top of hill at whisky bond).
I'm off on my hols tomorrow so won't be able to join you - or at the ttt on tuesday. Looking forward to hearing all about them though.
Cheers

There's been a few enquiries about mudguards. It's officially summertime on Sunday - does that mean mudguards are officially not necessary or would you recommend looking out the window and making a sensible decision?
PS If work's quiet I'll try and get along and take some pictures of you all for the records - so remember and wear the club kit!!

Have a look at http://johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/development_display.php
and scroll down to the APR section. Also there are some posts about this here:- http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/php ... php?t=1581
and some other stuff in the confined events section.

The long and short of it is I have no idea. As development officer I probably should know but this area is a bit of a minefield which is why the club (or me to be precise) at the moment aims to develop the over 18s! I'm sure Kenny through his work with go-bike and riderz will know the answer but I guess it's something along the lines of:-
It's a club training event NOT a race.
You should have a parent or guardian present (but I have no idea if this means at the start / finish line or 2 metres behind you (which I guess excludes your dad ))
I know this doesn't help very much - can anyone else shed light on this??

I'm on call this weekend so that'll be a no to both.

Another fantastic race Kat There was no doubt from the look on your face as your crossed the line (and the fact that you could hardly stand up) that you had put absolutely everything into it. And what a setting to race in - how does Melbourne beach road compare with Westferry
-
Fantastic race Kat - you did yourself proud. The whole family was cheering you on (the last time my daughters got up at 7am on a Sunday was on Christmas morning so that shows you how excited they were). The club got a mention in the commentary which was really cool.
For anyone who hasn't heard Kat was 5th in the individual Pursuit (over 3km) with a time of 3:43.524.

Sorry folks but I can't help out with this.

It's to be 36 degrees here tomorrow. Yeuch!
A foot of snow here last night - not much chance of a Sunday club run today.
All the best Kat - I hope the boxers keep the noise down a bit and let you get some kip
If you get the chance could you (or George) post the details of your schedule. I think there'll be a lot of early morning alarm calls and moving the tv into the bedroom for a couple of weeks.
