Liability insurance for club run organisers

Does anyone know if the BCF have any guidelines concerning liability insurance for members of BCF-affiliated clubs such as JWCC who are organising club runs? I've not been able to find anything about it on the BCF website. I know that you get individual 3rd party liability insurance from BCF membership (as you do with CTC membership) but that's not what I'm after.

By contrast the CTC website has a lot of info on the subject - see these links:

http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4972

http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=4462

...and they have specific liability insurance for ride leaders (see "Organisers' Liability cover" on the second page above).

From a JWCC perspective - what's the score?

Thanks

Tony

This seems to be the relevant page on the BCF website:

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/member ... -For-Clubs

...the bit that worries me is clause #2 -

Officials of the club who act on the club's specific instructions during their term of office, against claims

...this suggests that as a club run organiser you are only covered if you are a committee member (club "official").

...so as far as I can make out there are 2 aspects to this -

1. Individual liability - covered by the insurance you get with BCF membership or CTC membership, but not covered by JWCC membership on its own.

2. Corporate liability (i.e. the club and its "officials") - covered by the insurance policy referred to in the above link.

I must admit I find it hard to imagine the circumstances under which a 3rd party claim would be made against the organiser of a club run rather than against the individual rider who had caused the accident. Nevertheless I assume that this sort of thing could happen based on the fact that both CTC and BCF seem to have made provision for this (the CTC "Organisers Liability Cover" is a bit more specific). I'm a CTC member so I have 3rd party liability insurance as an individual. If I'm posting a club run on this forum do I still need to worry about the "corporate liability" aspect? I'm told this was discussed at the AGM, does anyone know what the outcome was? I could not make it to the AGM.

Thanks

Tony
