  1. After Monday's game the decision was taken to cancel the proposed August tournament due to the lack of suitable pitches on the rearranged dates. We will hold an event next year. If anyone has any ideas for a venue give us a shout.

  2. There is quite a bit of interest from the French, English & Irish teams in our proposed event this year. However all of them seem to have problems in sending strong squads if we go with the weekend of 16th/17th August.

There seems to be a consensus that the next weekend would suit better. The French teams are anxious to get their flights arranged ASAP as they can get them cheap if they book soon.

Just something to think about and maybe discuss on Monday.

  3. Last weekend saw the first European League tournament of the season hosted by Oakenden Peddlers of Kent.

Due to a variety of reasons our pool of players for the event was cut short and we ended up traveling with just three out of the eight allowed in a squad.

Fergus, Alasdair and myself were given a 'guest' goalkeeper for each of the seven games over the two days of play but it still meant playing four against five in each game and not being able to make any substitutions.

Our record was 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats which left us equal third out of the eight teams (St-Pierre de Varengeville, Frileuse-Sanvic, Gervais-Lilas, Johnstone, Ireland 1 & 2, Oakenden 1 & 2). Despite the lack of players we had a very enjoyable weekend of polo in the warm sunshine. The pitches were great, organisation was perfect and the matches themselves were all played in a good spirit.

Now I've recovered a bit I'm looking forward to our own tournament in August when hopefully we can get two or three teams entered.

  4. Polo is booked for this Friday at Linwood at the usual time (6.30-7.30)

As agreed last week I've block booked the Friday 6.30 slot for the remainder of April.

Hopefully by May the grass pitch will have emerged from under the water and we can get some real practice in before the summer tournaments.

  5. We never checked last week to see if the Sports Centre was open today. I've been trying to phone them but the phone is just ringing out - I've tried a few of the other sports centres & swimming baths and they aren't answering either.

I take it that they are all closed today so no polo this week :-(

  6. I can't really follow that at all.

I take it that we won't have a tournament up here then. I can't make the London event or the French one - assuming it's the September weekend.

Hopefully I can make the Kent tournament but it will depend on the dates. Does Gaz reckon it will be in the Autumn?

York seems to be on the 21st & 22nd of June and I reckon I can make that.

    How is everyone else placed?

  7. No polo next Friday (21st). Too many players with other commitments

    Hello, beer !!Hello, beer !!

    It's Party time!It's Party time!

The Sports Centre is shut the following week

Next game on 4/1/08 at 6.30 to 7.30.

Who'll be there? Start the new year the way you intend to go on.

Kenny Steele - what better time to make a start?

:icon_yes or RSN (Real Soon Now).

  8. Alan,

Will bring my own hat - think I got head lice from your's

That's a disgraceful statement; the correct spelling is 'yours'. Lucky you don't do anything for a living which requires a decent level of education.

    Stoooopid!

Still okay for a lift pal?

  9. If enough players want to commit to a Friday night then I will but I think that it is really overpriced, especially for the juniors - I'll make most Saturday's if we decide to go with that option.

When the council passed the ownership onto the RLL it was meant to improve leisure facilities and keep them reasonably priced

I've only been twice this year but the pitch doesn't seem to have been hired out before or after our games. I don't see the logic in them forcing us out by trying to make us pay the same fees as 22 adults playing football. There are ten of us at most & some of those would qualify for concessions. If we weren't there it seems apparent that the pitch would be empty & they'll get no revenue for that hour.

  10. Under the cover of darkness late on Tuesday I met a guy who was in the process of purloining a slab from the club rooms. When challenged he assured me that it was his property and he had only given the club a loan of it. He also expressed a wish that Bob Sharp not find out about its retrieval.

Being of a suspicious nature I followed him back to his place of residence and witnessed him and his accomplice cementing the slab into place adjacent to his back door (it's the one on the left). I didn't recognise either of them as being regular polo players. I am pretty sure though that neither of them is employed in the building trade.

Steele by name, steal by nature?

  11. Seems okay now Iain although I'm not sure that I was getting the error 100% of the time.

    Thanks

  12. I'm updating the membership database just now and there are plenty of gaps in the information we hold.

Can anyone who has joined JWCC in the last couple of years (or had a fairly recent change of address; change of phone number or email address) send me a private message with their details.

Your address is needed as a minimum, but if you also want include a phone number &/or email address it will make it easier for the club to get in contact with you should the need arise.

The information won't be divulged to any third party and is only accessible by the club committee.

    Thanks
