  1. Our 200k audax is on 24 June starting @ 8:00am at the clubrooms. It was a good day out last year, ask some of the guys that rode it. Free food at first check and at finish. You can enter on the line, but I'd appreciate a phone call or email to warn me.

The course is the same as last year.

Entry fee: £4.50 + £1.50 insurance if not a member of BC, CTC or AUK

    Entries to me:

    Dave Stokes, tel:- 0131 440 3477

    100 Main Street

    Roslin

    Midlothian EH25 9LT

    Cheers, Dave.

  2. Campbell,

Let's get thinking about this event, right now I feel enthused about it having just followed the progress of about 8 riders; in 3 years time I might be back to my usual "I'm only mad not stark staring bonkers, you won't get me on one of those!"

Can you post some logistics about it, for starters:-

How long are you away from home?

What is the total cost (travel, hotels, food during ride, etc.)?

  3. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in starting a new category in The Bunch. I had originally though of it being called "Audax", but then thought it ought to include long distance time trialling like 12s and 24s, but then since so few club members ride any time trials over 50 miles perhaps we should include 100s as well.

    Does anyone have any views?

  4. First well done Campbell, I almost feel like having a go myself in 4 years time - I just hope the feeling wears off.

All (or most) of the check points will have sleeping accommodation, although it may only be a blanket on the hard floor and you can ask someone to wake you up at a specific time. If you do plan ahead on an event like this, you will almost certainly have to change the plan after the first sleep since you can't predict where you'll be at a specific time.

As far as I can tell from the times posted, Campbell stopped for 3 sleeps with the longest being about 5 hours.

The one thing you mustn't do is stop by the roadside for a kip on the nice soft grass, it is a racing certainty that lots of the thousand or so riders in front of you will have chosen that precise place to have a pee!

  5. Take 1.

There's a lady in Edinburgh who has a "DEAF" car number-plate fixed to the back of her bike; I think she should have one with "MENTALLY RETARDED" on it 'cos she doesn't have decent batteries in her rear lights.

    Take 2.

A trike has a similar effect to a "DEAF" sign.
