Fred Whitton Challenge 2017

The struggle is actually a climb which leads onto the Kirkstone Pass. Traditionally the Fred does not go up this. The route up to Kirkstone is hard enough, but the struggle would add insult to injury!

As for the decents, don't worry. As long as you know not to go haring down the 25% hills you'll be fine.

Hi Folks

I just wanted to remind you all that entry starts on Dec 1st. This is from their website:

"All the details of how you can enter for The Fred Whitton 2017 which will take place on Sunday May 7th will be on our Web site on the 1st of December, we are always over subscribed and have to hold a lottery to determine the riders. There is more than one way to gain a place on the ride, and all this will be explained in the full entry details in December."

I'll be entering this week and I advise you to do the same.

cheers

D

LOTTERY ENTRY

For the main entry in January we will use a lottery system, to be as fair as we can to all riders and avoid an ‘internet race’ to get places in the event.

At least 2,000 places in the event will be available and allocated by this lottery draw, entry to which will be on-line and open for two weeks: Monday 9th January to Sunday 22nd January. The draw will then be made on Monday 23rd January and soon after we will email everyone who entered the draw to let them know if they have a place in the event.

The event entry fee is £60, which is payable when you enter the lottery, but it will only be reserved on your account when you enter the lottery. Then, soon after the lottery draw has been made on Monday 23rd January, we will email to let you know if you have a place in the event. If so, then the already-reserved entry fee will be taken from your account (plus small transaction charge that the banks take), and if not then the reserve for the fee will be released (so no money is taken) and we’ll let you know how you can go on our reserve list if you want.

For the lottery entry we will favour first-time riders in the event, by reserving a number of places for people who haven’t ridden our event before. So when you enter the lottery you’ll be asked if you’ve ridden the event before (be honest, we’ll check), and a draw will first be done for the first-time rider places, followed by a second draw for the remaining places. Any first-time riders who don’t get a place in the first draw will go into the second draw as well, so first-time riders will get two chances in the draws.

You’ll also be able to enter the lottery either individually or as a group of up to 4 people. If you enter as a group then the group will get one ticket in the lottery and if that ticket is chosen then the whole group will get places in the event. This means that your group will either all get places or none get places in the event; this will suit you if you only want to ride the event if your friends can also ride (e.g. if you want to travel together to the event).

All applicants will be informed by email of the result of the lottery draw a few days after January 23rd. For the unsuccessful riders there will be a reserve list to subscribe to, and we will offer any cancellation places that become available to people on the reserve list.
