2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted May 14, 2015 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted May 14, 2015 Guys After much consultation the consensus is to ride this on Saturday. So, we will meet Simon and Al at the Troutbeck Inn to begin the ride at 8.30. This will mean a 6 o'clock start or thereabouts from up here. Should be epic! Ian Porteous
I'm going to have to pass guys sorry. I'm struggling to find motivation for 9hrs driving and a lot of cycling, plus I've only done a 50 min turbo session since liege!
2023 Subscriptions iain couttie Posted May 19, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted May 19, 2015 might go if the weather is ok,no interest in driving 5 hours to cycle in the rain. iain
DavieB
Sorry chaps won't be able to make this now as have some other commitments. Would love to ride the route but will be another time.
Committee Alan McLean Posted May 25, 2015 Committee Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 just searched this out: https://app.strava.com/activities/44782341 Duncan and I took almost 10 hours including a spoke breakage and a few punctures, in snow, in March. I have only ever walked up one sealed road, Hardknott. I had a 39/25 then but I think I would need MTB gearing to stand a chance of riding it at the end of a long ride. You should be ok if you start at the north end of the route. Looking forward to epic report!
Committee Alan McLean Posted May 25, 2015 Committee Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 playing with that Strava ride. just found a gradient segment of 35.4% on Hardknott. lol. see km160.4 I walked up wrynose too and punctured at the top in twilight. happy days. 2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted May 25, 2015 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 Yup. Sure is a tough ride and Hardknott is hardcore. But, as you say, starting nearer will help. We will still have Kirkstone near the end, but that is no where near as difficult as the Harknott-Wrynose double whammy! Bring it on (as they say:) ) Alan Michael
Committee Alan McLean Posted May 25, 2015 Committee Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 now I see a snapshot gradient of 57% on wrynose so maybe GPS gradient not entirely reliable. Darryl Gunson

al yuille
Simon and I were about 10 hours I think. Walked up steepest parts of Hardknot on 39/25. Will have 28 this time so fully expect.........to be walking again ! looking forward to this . Hope the weather improves.

2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted June 2, 2015 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 2, 2015 Hi Iain That's great. There's only 4 of us going from the Johnstone area- me Robbie, Paul and you. Al and Simon will see us there. Jann might also see us there. So if you could get 4 and bikes in that would be great. But if not, Paul has also offered to drive. So, maybe me and Paul in his car and you and Robbie in yours, might be best. Thoughts?
