Hello

I'm a regular commuter into Glasgow from Inchinnan daily on a specialised crosstail hybrid. Anyway today I bought a specialised secteur disc. I'm really keen to get out on a few runs with a group and found you guys. Do you all meet at a central location or can we meet en-route etc?

Hi Kenny,

Firstly welcome to the club....Keep an eye the cub run section, it is updated on a weekly basis... We meet at out own clubrooms in Miller street in Johnstone every Sunday, and depending the route there may be options to join up en-route, there generally tends to be 2 or 3 runs on a Sunday so depending on your fitness you should find one to suit you.... Tomorrow however we are holding an annual event called the Don Smith , it is an open reliability run, and open to cyclists of any or no club, and is run as a charity event raising money for Accord Hospice and Braveheart Cycling Fund.

There are 3 different routes, basically a short ,a medium and a long run and entry is £10. This run does NOT start from Johnstone, but from the Scotlinds Gym in Lochwinnoch...

If you cant make it tomorrow, keep an eye on the forum for next weeks run. Look forward to seeing you out on the road.

Cheers

Ian.......

Rides usually start (tomorrow however is an exception to this) from the clubhouse in Miller Street in Johnstone which is just off the cycletrack but you could join in part of the way along - obviously depends on what route is being taken where would be suitable to join. The ride details and meeting time are posted on the forum before the ride.

There are usually 2 groups out namely the 30 milers (who despite the name often do more than 30 miles particularly in the summer) and the main bunch (which is a bit faster). There is also sometimes an intermediate group but i think this is more of a summer thing. If you cant make tomorrows event then a future 30 milers ride is probably the best introduction to the club - that was my intention when i first joined however i couldnt attend any weekend rides at the time so instead jumped into the deepend with the thursday night chaingang instead. On reflection that wasnt the most sensible of choices!

Welcome to Scotland's friendliest club , not sure about how fit you are but believe me it wont matter you won't be left to fend for yourself on any club run , start off with the 30 milers we normally have a coffee stop for a blether and to catch our breath and see how you get on before trying another bunch

Kenny, as others have said welcome to the Wheelers. Follow the advice and guidance others have given you regards finding out about the various club runs on the forum. Which run you opt for is up to you to an extent.

The main bunch consists of experienced riders who will generally average 60+ miles at around 18-20mph average. The intermediate group probably a similar distance but at an easier pace. If you're fit and ride regularly you might want to start here. Alternatively the 30 milers who ride at a more social pace but can do reasonable miles would be ideal. If you find this too easy then move up a group.

Disc brakes are not an issue as such but I'd try them out first just to gauge how quickly they will stop you compared to the caliper and block set up those riding with will use, and work out how easily you can scrub speed off without hard sudden braking.

Come along next Sunday morning and introduce yourself and we'll look after you.

Marko

Hi Kenny

We usually meet at Miller Street but sometimes we meet on route generally when going north of the river we will meet some of the bunch at the bridge

You should try and get out next week in one of the bunches

I think we have just two bunches just now mainly due to a few of the riders getting some miles in before going over to do the hell of the north

In the next few weeks we should be running three bunches

See you soon

I'll be getting road shoes soon icon_rolling_smile I'll take a visit into Thompsons and see what is there. How do I go about becoming a member of the club? I've been out on one run and will try and get out again this weekend. I've been overdoing it a little to try and complete the strava Specialized Spring Classics Challenge but getting there!
