Guest Jim Daly
Alan There will be a bunch run on Sunday starting from the club house at 9:30am, for definite. Members Kenny MacDonald
Wowee 12 riders met at Gourock sailing club for the trip over to Dunnoon Kenny MacD , Kenny S , Ken Macd , Big Bill , Colin, Davie R , Sarah ,Malcolm , Greg, Martin Mulhooligan , Ian S and 9:30 interloper Alan Mclean The ferry trip was a smooth sail as hardly a ripple could be seen on the Clyde and the mist covered mountains beckoned to be climbed. Once on the road Mulhooligan was keen to flex his new big ring and test out his new steed Kenny S deployed the old turning into a garage forecourt ruse to get to back of bunch when asked to take a turn at the front unfortunately the whole bunch followed him and he remained at front of group The pace was brisk ( too brisk for some ) down Loch Eck and the turn off to Ardentinny. Once onto the climb all hell broke loose with bodies strewn everywhere as lungs popped like a firework display. Martim ,Alan and Malcolm set the pace at the front followed by Colin and Kenny S.Behind them carnage took place ( yours truly stopped 3 times with severe stomach cramps - a bad day at the climbing office ) everyone found a comfortable pace and ground on relentlessly Big Bill an experienced Ardentinny climber rolled on comfortably keeping his pulse just below the red zone whilst others not sure of climb yo yod in and out of oxygen debt The summit was breasted first by Alan claiming KOM folllowed by Martin ( whose jumping gears hampered his progress or he would have easily taken the award - well thats what he told me ) followed closely by Malcolm hanging on to just beat Colin . As soon as we all regrouped it was a quick descent although a bit scary on the hairpins and a blast down to Ardentinny. The pace increased as Alan and Martin injected speed at the front stretching some legs as we sped back towards Sandbank. The group wheeled about efficiently keeping the pace high all the way back to Sandbank junction to Hunters quay. At this point Alan headed back to ferry ( he claimed he had to get back home early , but the 30 milers knew in reality we had worn him out big Bill joined him to make sure he got home okay The last climb of the day over to Dunnoon was nicked by Kenny MacD who halfway up realised that the Mulhooligan express was still stuffing his face at junction any victory is welcomed on a bad day A quick descent into Dunnon and back onto coast road for a final blast to Toward. The pace was still fierce as a light wind helped push us along The only puncture of the day befell Kenny MacD who called on his minder Colin to assist the repair whilst the bunch ploughed on to Castle Toward. The puncture squad turned and rolled back to ferry with just enough time in hand to enjoy a cup of tea and some cakes before the remainder charged round the corner as the rain started to fall from the sky Kenny S flew past on his way to Hunters quay and his awaiting family and an all day breakfast On the ferry stories were told and spirits were high, before a cold restart for the short ride back to cars. 47 miles under our wheels in quiet scenic roads , an excellent day out for all. Rider of the day :- a joint award to Sarah and Greg well done. Martin Mulhooligan decided to put in extra training for the Wanlockhead weekend and was passed by the cars as he manfully climbed up the Clune ( well thats being kind to him )
Members Kenny MacDonald
K.O.M. update with Mulhooligan finishing second on both climbs today he claims the overall jersey He looks forward to defending his jersey on stages 1 and 2 of the Wanlockhead classic
Dougie Da Rosa
Ha,that I cannot wait to see, especially when he's drunk!!!! Has he been training all season for that weekend then do you think?. Maybe we should all get our good bikes back out if he is in top form..... Committee Alan McLean Posted November 4, 2007 Committee Report Share Posted November 4, 2007 A lovely ride was completely ruined by the noises from Martin's cheap gruppo (some Italian tat) which clicked and creaked all the way round Argyll. Those of us with silky smooth Shimano just looked at each other and shook our heads in disbelief. Has the man no shame or self-respect? Top marks to the younger members, Greg and Sarah, who were still going strong when I bailed. They are steady riders and good at calling out dangers unlike SOME people. On the way back through Greenock/Port Glasgow I saw at least four other bunches out or at cafe stops plus a few singles. Cycling is the new black. Only 7 weeks til the days get longer, bring it on. KennyS
Must agree, Alan I think he's riding that clattering kit in the hope of the old wife's tale about Campag wearing in coming to fruition. If nothing else it will see him putting in a lot of miles during the winter. Probably on his own
