Study in BMJ today Involving 264,377 participants (average age 53 years) recruited from the UK Biobank - a database of biological information from half a million British adults. Commuting to work by Cycling or walking is associated with substantial health benefits.

Risk of hospitalisation is that if 1000 people cycle to work every day for 10 years we’d expect to see an additional 26 hospitalisations (23 <1 week) so although there is an increased risk this of injury is small overall. 
 

these data are great argument for increasing cycling safety and traffic calming measures.

That’s 21 events unaccounted for G! I have 0 commute related but 2 MTB related. If we count those theres another 19 going spare.
