Women’s Only Ride 22/05/19

Recommended Posts

Delighted to be asked by the committee to host this years women’s rides.  This is not a formally coached session but aims to introduce potential and new female members to bunch riding on the local roads around Renfrewshire.

For the first ride, plan would be to meet at the club rooms on Miller Street at 6:45pm for an initial short briefing about riding in a bunch.   We will then head out for a 60-90 minute ride on local quiet roads, finishing at the club rooms for a cup of tea.

Further rides to be hosted on Wednesday  5th, 12th, 19th and 26th June. Can agree timings in the coming weeks.

I have offered to ride more slowly and for a shorter distance ( ) and am happy to lead anyone else who wishes to join in but is concerned about keeping up the pace at this stage. No one will be left behind and if we are back at the clubrooms first we can put the kettles on!

See you all soon, the more the merrier.

So, we are ready to go on Wednesday. We have two superstar wheelers, Alan T and Martin, who have kindly offered to come along and give us a quick run through about bunch riding.

Plan would then be to head along the cycle track to Bridge of Weir so we can practice our bunch riding skills. A wee short climb up Horsewood road, past the golf course and along some of the back roads in  to Kilbarchan.  Across to Howwood and then back to the club rooms.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. 6:45 at the club rooms.

Smashing start to this series of rides. Wheelers Elaine, Jann, Jane and Karen were joined by 12 other women. More people on Facebook asking if they can join in.

Well done for organising this, just cracking.

Thanks to everyone for tonight. It was a great team effort from all involved.  Special thanks to Alan T and Martin for the chat at the beginning and to Charlie for his support on route.  Perfectly placed to encourage folk up the hill! Also thanks to my fellow female wheelers. Couldn’t have done it without you.

Definitely going to work out a plan so we have a ride next Wednesday to keep the momentum going.

Well done for organising this tonight Elaine. Lovely route in glorious weather, and great banter in the bunch. Thanks to Alan T and Martin for helping out, and Charlie for the roadside encouragement. Lots of enthusiastic riders tonight-here's to the first of many Wednesday evening rides! Ohyadancer!

Reading some of the feedback, and interest from others looking to join the ride, it looks as though you have no option other than make this a regular feature :-)

Well done to all  on organising this

Brilliant stuff Girls (Elaine in particular; Martin and Alan too).  Great initiative and a fab response. There's undoubtedly a latent body of female riders out there looking for some form of structured cycling outlet. The Wednesday evening does clash with our PT sessions, otherwise I'd be sending Heather along to join you all.

Chapeau to Katie Archibald for taking a genuine interest in nuts and bolts grassroots cycling - all credit to you Katie.
