Winter segment challenge

Recommended Posts

There is now a website that automates strava segment challenges, so thought i'd give it a go over the winter and see how it goes and if it works will use it for the summer one. If it works as intended i will just need to set up the stages at the start and then dont need to do anything - it will automatically take the times from club members who ride the segment and then do the scoring.

There will be 5 stages between now and Feb 28th 2019

First stage is keep your booty rooted to the seat https://www.strava.com/segments/3356126

results and league table will appear here:

https://segmentchallenge.com/challenges/jwcc-winter-segment-challenge

scoring is as follows

Stage position 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th
General Classification points 15 12 10 8 6 5 4 3 2 1
KOM/QOM - Mountain stage 10 8 6 4 2 - - - - -
KOM/QOM - Rolling stage 5 4 3 2 1 - - - - -
Sprint - Flat stage 10 8 6 4 2 - - - - -
Sprint - Rolling stage 5 4 3 2 1 - - - - -

Are these tied into a week or just released as and when and you can do them whenever.

Stevie, click on the link Iain gave above for Segment Challenge then click 'Stages' this will provide you with advance notice of the dates which cover each of the five stages. The first stage is now open and also given above.

Great stuff Homer!

I got a bit of a fright when I seen the segment name though-I have a KOM with a PRETTY similar name...at an undisclosed location.  Wouldn’t like anyone to try and take it from me-it wouldn’t be very sporting, after all of the effort I put in!

These KoM challenges threaten to corrupt my secret training program to win the sprints on the Georgetown next year. Can I suggest all the segments are left open all winter so I can win them when my periodisation cycle, wind direction and air density match in perfect alignment. Thanks.

I am currently working on long term mitochondria improvement.

i'm not sure, there doesnt seem to be away for me to manually refresh the results. May appear in a few days.

Also the leaderboard seems to be missing my sub 4 minute time

Sub four minutes!  Can this unique segment be done in either direction?

Johns effort seems to be showing up now

I hadn’t joined the league until I saw on this post I rode one of the segments by pure chance.  Joined now so better go and do an effort.

Results are in :)

We using this for over the summer then?  Make it into a full season thing?

Makes it a lot easier for me to count the scores, however not many took part. Will give it another go in April once the clocks have changed and see if it is more popular then, if not then back to doing it manually in May.
