Committee Alan McLean Posted September 15, 2018 Committee Report Share Posted September 15, 2018 Hi Some of the local climbs have been totally bossed by Quick Step etc on Strava. I am looking at The Full Carruthmuir aka. Phil's Folly and I've seen others. can I suggest that during the winter gales (we'll need storm force tailwinds ) we make club efforts to get one of these back. I would like to imagine Wout van Aert or GVA receiving the "Uh oh, Galeb/Paul/Ian has just taken your KOM etc..." message. (I would also like to think they might just pop back to regain their Kom). Perhaps they weren't really trying but I think they were. I will volunteer to lead out for, oooh, first 20 seconds. Anyone got a list of likely segments? 2023 Subscriptions Gerard Deeley Posted September 15, 2018 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted September 15, 2018 This is a bit like your neighbour’s cat doing their business on your back lawn. Action needs to be taken.
Committee Alan McLean Posted September 16, 2018 Author Committee Report Share Posted September 16, 2018 yes indeed. Something must be done. By somebody. Bonkers tailwind (I mean really insane) plus five hardy guys on a paceline might just do it. I'll bet that's what Quick Step did, they probably targeted the Kilmacolm-Lochwinnoch road all year. Galeb
So what segments are we talking about? Can try and include some in the training bunch ride. Not really a bunch the last two weeks...but on occasions there is a good turnout where we can maybe grab some of those KoMs.

Committee Alan McLean Posted September 16, 2018 Author Committee Report Share Posted September 16, 2018 try https://www.strava.com/segments/1440866 and https://www.strava.com/segments/4671789 Richie Provan is only 15 secs off the KOM for the second so it should be doable
Galeb
We normally go towards Kilmacolm on that road need to find a way to go in the other direction

Committee Alan McLean Posted September 19, 2018 Author Committee Report Share Posted September 19, 2018 Probably. But I have been in Aberdeen all day in a light breeze so I'll have to assume that Couttie has just popped out to bag a couple. Wout van Aert has ten pages of Strava KOMs but I'm sure he'll miss ours the most. Codg1e and Jannza 1
Galeb
Gave the full carruthmuir a go today on my own 4:09...14 secs off. Wasn't the best wind direction but I think its doable! thejanullrichdietplan

2023 Subscriptions thejanullrichdietplan Posted September 21, 2018 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted September 21, 2018 I had a go too but a bit slower at 4:12 (and 412 watts so i dont have much more to give). looking at it on the map you would think a north westerly would be the best wind and provide a tail wind all the way up it, however the trees provide quite a lot of shelter particularly for the bottom part so a north easterly is probably the best - side tail for part of it then a tail wind for the finish. 2023 Subscriptions thejanullrichdietplan Posted September 21, 2018 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted September 21, 2018 just noticed i got a KOM after all the best bit is that Wout van Aert, Dimitri Claeys, Jaspar Stuyven, Greg van Avermaet and Jelle Wallays were joint KOM holders so they will all have received the message.
