2023 Subscriptions George Posted July 11, 2018 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 11, 2018 I’ve boight a disc brake frame, Ridley Fenix, that I’m going to use for winter/commuting. It’s spec state it takes post mount brakes. Is this flat mount?
2023 Subscriptions XXX Posted July 11, 2018 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 11, 2018 George the first cross over from MTB was post mount disc breaks , the general limiter was you were stuck to a certain rotor size, however I think now with the adapters available it’s not such an issue They started getting used more and to help both internal cabling and the ability to suit different size rotors flat mount came in , they look a bit smarter but that’s about all , flat mount is the current standard, I think George
DavieB
Post mount has raised threaded bosses integral to the frame. Flat mount has no raised boss with the brake mounted flush to fork and chain stay. Flat mount I suppose will impart less dynamic force under braking however as Billy said it is probably an "aero" (ha-ha) and aesthetic "improvement" which has become the new standard.
