Thanks Gerard for organising.
Dave, thanks for time keeping.
Tough night with that wind. Well done all.

James reacted to Gerard Deeley in 2022 League of 10 and Frank Lauder
A nice evening for a return to the Westferry course, a little bit windy on the way out but that means a tailwind on the return leg.
Three riders had a go:
James 23min 29sec
Gerard 24min 4sec
Scott 24min 44sec
The best performance of the night was definitely from Dave Cowan who stepped up to time keep and made sure the event went ahead.
With what interested members have said so far about their availability to ride the current thinking is that we ride again next week on the 10th August. Then we resume two weeks after that on 24th August and then finally the Frank Lauder 10mile TT Championship on the 31 August.

James reacted to Gerard Deeley in Georgetown League 25 May
Very strong headwind on the way out tonight, combined with my legs legs still tired from a long day out in the mountains resulted in a poor time of 18m 45s.

Just a heads up that 8 of us are heading to Torrevieja area from Thus 24th Feb to Wed 2nd March. If anyone else interested please get in touch with me, Darryl or Billy. Transport for up to twelve is sorted by Billy with a mini bus and trailer for bikes. 4 of us still to book accommodation so would be good to know by next weekend and we can book a bigger villa.

James reacted to Darryl Gunson in Spain trip next February
Just want echo Paul’s post and to encourage anyone who quite fancies it but maybe isn’t sure, or perhaps doesn’t know everyone. We first went just before the first lockdown and it was great. We stay in a quiet area with great cycling and accommodation. Basically, because the weather is so nice, we are out on our bikes all day. In the evening we have some nice food and a couple of light ales, and repeat the next day. It’s a great mini- break. As Paul says, get in touch if you fancy it.
Cheers

James reacted to XXX in Spain Training Camp (sort off)
Hi All
With the current fun times that is a COVID pandemic , the February camp will obviously not take place , so with the likelihood of travel restrictions being lifted in the spring , I am planning to go over to Spain October / November. Think what a bounce a Sunny block of endurance miles will do before the onset of winter. The temperature in Spain October/ November is pleasant to warm . Anyway if anybody else is thinking about it it would be good to get a decent group , at the moment I think my gaff may be full , but that will depend on when dates are fixed, which obviously depends on travel restrictions being lifted .
post if interested

James reacted to Gerard Deeley in Islay
Thought I would share a few pictures of my overnighter on Islay last week with my boys. Just cycled from Port Ellen to Port Charlotte and camped overnight. Islay is quite stunning and I have never seen such a huge and clear night sky. I may have to work out how to carry a telescope by bike too.

James reacted to iain couttie in Club Run #1, 2nd February, Tour of Renfrewshire
I suffered the broken chain curse a couple of miles from lochwinnoch. Managed to freewheel to clohodric stone and push and walk home. Was a sorry sight when I got in. Frozen and grumpy. Annoyed I didn’t manage the complete rout.

James reacted to gregbalden in Sun 12 Jan 2020 - Tour De Troon
8 men arrived at the clubhouse for the tour de Troon. Alan T, Alan McL, Tommy, James, Eric, David C, Iain C and myself.
Two departed at Stewarton, Eric and David with the remaining 6 carrying on until Troon. A good return leg with cross/tail wind and rain.
60 steady winter miles in the bag. A prime example of main bunch riding.

James reacted to AlanT in Confined Events 2020
I have attached the schedule of confined events ( and some open ones) for the coming season. Confined event awards are open to all club members, and are an excellent way to introduce new riders to the mysteries and dark arts of Time Trialing.
This year, I have introduced 2 new courses for the League of 10. One is the Hilly course, and the other the restricted gear course at Gateside. These will be one of events within the league of 10, which will be mostly on the Westferry, as normal.
If you want to give TT-ing a shot, these are the events to try.

James reacted to Ian Archibald in Chaingang 15th August - 3 groups first off 625pm- change of format
There is a Couriers WhatsApp Saturday group that is winding me up. The change in the Thursday format has been posted up but it seems there are some people (John Craig and Garry Dunn) who want the ride to be a social ride operating at about 32kph (20mph for the old timers).
The joy for me in the chain gang is cooperating to go faster than you can on your own. In a low grade Cat 3/4 race the average speed for 2hrs+ of an un-cooperative bunch of cyclists is 38-40kph. If we can't cooperate and achieve 40kph for one hour we aren't cooperating! Gregg O Malley has won races on long solo breaks averaging this speed on his own. And no way should Gregg beat our determined chain gang who are working for each other.
Smooth and fast. When a chain gang is in full flow there is nothing finer! 45kph down the Westferry should be a breeze.

James reacted to AlanT in David Raymond Trophy Tuesday 13th August
Thanks to Scott and John for timing on the night, and to all involved in holding. As already mentioned, tough on the way out, and just hard on the way back. Great to see so many people involved,.
Unlucky on the puncture Marc, there's always next year. I'll work out the handicaps for the Trophy, if people can send me their best 10 time coming into the season. If you don't have a 10 time, tell me that too, and I'll apply a 26 minute standard.
Winners on the night were Team Ian. Well done guys.
£36 transferred to the club account.
