Gerard Deeley got a reaction from Dave W in Confined Events 2024
Welcome to all members visiting our Confined Events calendar for 2024. We have been striving to keep and create events for all to take part in and enjoy a measure of sportfulness on their bikes. Remember that all of these events will be posted up both on our website and on the WhatsApp groups so nobody need miss them.
Reliability Runs

Sunday 25 February - Moscow Revolution
Sunday 3 March - Sinclair Street
Sunday 10 March - West Kilbride
More details to follow nearer the time and the clubrooms will be available for the usual food and chat afterwards.
A.P.R. Events
Darryl’s introduction of the A.P.R.s have been well received and are back to give anyone the challenge they desire. The format is adapted for the attending riders on the day, so very much for all abilities.
Sunday 31 March Gateside Circuit. Tour of Flanders afterwards at the clubrooms.
Sunday 14 April Barrmill Circuit. Amstell Gold Race afterwards at the clubrooms.
Sunday 1 September Barrmill Circuit
Sunday 8 September Gateside Circuit
Other Events
Saturday 18 May 10 mile Hilly T.T. Langbank Course. Road bikes only.
Saturday 22 June Frank Lauder 10 mile T.T. Westferry Course.
Sunday 20 October J.W.C.C. Hill Climb Championship Elliston Road. There will be the addition of a gravel bike category.
There will be much more information on these fantastic cycling days to come. Including the dates of when I make sausage rolls and Paris-Brest choux buns.
Hope to see many of you at these events.

Gerard Deeley reacted to Darryl Gunson in Second APR training 4th June
Despite depleted numbers compared to our previous APRs, we managed to get 3 groups organised. It was a perfect day for it. We were joined by new prospective members - Stephen and Chloe, as well as blast from the past - Mark Whitehead. Also, Eddie from Largs joined in with the second group.
Scratch (Robbie, Murray, Richie) caught the 2nd group with 1 lap to go. Rob won the sprint.
Most of the group returned to the clubrooms for refreshments.

Gerard Deeley got a reaction from KennyS in Flanders Fest Sunday 2 April 2023
In a new event for the club we will be having a Flanders themed day on Sunday 2 April. Thanks to the tireless and unrelenting efforts of the highly skilled Johnstone Wheelers I.T. division we will have the Tour of Flanders available to watch in the clubrooms after our various club runs. There will also be some catering to enjoy as well - yes there will be sausage rolls!
There are the three ride groups available, so please anyone organise a route in the appropriate WhatsApp group for anyone to join in. Aim to be back at the clubrooms for about 1300h to 1330h and plan accordingly. Include a cafe stop if desired, but if you have a waffle a picture must be posted up.
As this is a social event it is an excellent opportunity for you to introduce a potential new member to the club. So please bring along a guest for the day and we can welcome them.

We up the distance in Reliability Ride #2 for Sunday 12 February. Looking for another excellent turnout from the beautiful people that make up our entire membership.
http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/elderslie-sct/reliability-no-2-moscow-route-1787383
There will be the usual three groups
0900 for those who prefer to chat along the way
0930 for those who prefer to stay a bit quieter and ride
0945 for those who prefer to scream on the inside so as not to show weakness
Please turn up In good time to be a part of your chosen bunch as they need to set off sharp.
As ever a modest donation of food for afterwards in the clubrooms is most welcome. Hot soup, sandwiches and cakes are the usual winners here.

Thanks everyone for turning out this morning. 3 groups, 40 lumpy miles, and soup and sarnies back at the clubrooms. Excellent. See you all next week for more of the same.
Cheers

The first of our 2023 Reliability Rides, meet up at the club room in Miller Street in good time to go with your intended group.
First group will be off at 0900h, the second will leave at 0930 and the fast riders will leave at 0945.
Please post up if you intend coming along and in which group, the more the merrier but groups should be kept to manageable sizes.
Can we also have a key holder for the clubrooms to allow access before and after. It is traditional to bring along something for afterwards, soup, sandwiches, tray bakes, etc and if everyone makes a contribution for at least one of the weeks there will be plenty. While these are events that are confined to club members we do also welcome new members and they are a great introduction to JWCC. Let us make these fantastic cycling and social events with our club and get the season off to a great start.

A welcome to all club members now reading this, you have now entered the nirvana of JWCC participation that is our Confined Events. Last year was a mixed bag for these events as we looked at ways to get rider participation across the board. The Reliability Rides did sort of happen, though it is now clear that we need to factor in bad weather in February. The APR events were well attended and they will be back. Using the Georgetown League worked well as those who did them were getting a midweek TT in a well run format. The Hill Climb Event was a superb day for the club so the misery of that minute and a bit was all worth it. The Restricted Gear events did not happen and there was only one Hilly TT, if the opportunity arises then we shall keep trying them.
First events of 2023 will be our Reliabilities, the traditional test of rider and steed during the last throws of winter and into spring’s lacklustre arrival. Along with the traditional set routes the club has used for many years we can also expect the traditional torrential rain to cancel them. Previously this meant shifting the busy calendar about to reschedule them over less popular events. Learning from this we have a more rolling schedule that accommodates postponements by allowing a few extra weeks before scheduling our next events.
In summary I will post up the Reliability Rides as they happen, starting with the Tour of Renfrewshire on the 5 February.

Dave, thanks for time keeping.
Tough night with that wind. Well done all.

Gerard Deeley got a reaction from James in 2022 League of 10 and Frank Lauder
A nice evening for a return to the Westferry course, a little bit windy on the way out but that means a tailwind on the return leg.
Three riders had a go:
James 23min 29sec
Gerard 24min 4sec
Scott 24min 44sec
The best performance of the night was definitely from Dave Cowan who stepped up to time keep and made sure the event went ahead.
With what interested members have said so far about their availability to ride the current thinking is that we ride again next week on the 10th August. Then we resume two weeks after that on 24th August and then finally the Frank Lauder 10mile TT Championship on the 31 August.
