    A.P.R. Events

Darryl’s introduction of the A.P.R.s have been well received and are back to give anyone the challenge they desire.  The format is adapted for the attending riders on the day, so very much for all abilities.

Sunday 31 March Gateside Circuit.  Tour of Flanders afterwards at the clubrooms.

Sunday 14 April Barrmill Circuit.  Amstell Gold Race afterwards at the clubrooms.

    Sunday 1 September Barrmill Circuit

    Sunday 8 September Gateside Circuit

    Other Events

Saturday 18 May 10 mile Hilly T.T. Langbank Course.  Road bikes only.

Saturday 22 June Frank Lauder 10 mile T.T. Westferry Course.

Sunday 20 October J.W.C.C. Hill Climb Championship Elliston Road.  There will be the addition of a gravel bike category.

There will be much more information on these fantastic cycling days to come.  Including the dates of when I make sausage rolls and Paris-Brest choux buns.

Hope to see many of you at these events.

    Gerard

  2. There is an appetite in the club for the Langbank/Houston/Gleddoch route the club uses for the 10mile Hilly Time Trial.  There was also clear feedback that it would be preferable to do the route in clement weather rather than slog it out in the cold rain and wind and now that weather is here.   It is an easy route to follow, but a challenge in how you plan on riding it.  When is it best to push yourself and when do you need to keep it steady to get your best time!

Saturday mornings seem to be quite a good time to run this event to get a decent turnout of riders.  To run the event each time we would need at least three riders and a timekeeper so please do post up when you intend riding or volunteering your stopwatch skills when the events go live.

As many of you are already aware I work most weekends, so waiting until I have a date that I can commit to to either ride or timekeep is impractical for the club.  So I will need to put up dates for others to make the necessary arrangements on the day.  In addition, as we can be flexible to suit ourselves should you feel the need for a TT then please post up a request for it and we can make it happen.

We can start this coming Saturday 3rd June, meeting at Langbank at 0900.

  3. In a new event for the club we will be having a Flanders themed day on Sunday 2 April.  Thanks to the tireless and unrelenting efforts of the highly skilled Johnstone Wheelers I.T. division we will have the Tour of Flanders available to watch in the clubrooms after our various club runs.  There will also be some catering to enjoy as well - yes there will be sausage rolls!

There are the three ride groups available, so please anyone organise a route in the appropriate WhatsApp group for anyone to join in.  Aim to be back at the clubrooms for about 1300h to 1330h and plan accordingly.  Include a cafe stop if desired, but if you have a waffle a picture must be posted up.

As this is a social event it is an excellent opportunity for you to introduce a potential new member to the club.  So please bring along a guest for the day and we can welcome them.

Be a part of the glorious and long history of the JWCC and join your clubmates for our fourth in a row of a rare uninterrupted schedule with the Reliability Run to West Kilbride.  For everyone who has been out in any of the previous weeks a big thank you for making these days so successful, just one more in what looks like the best weather forecast out of all them all.

We have the usual format of three groups leaving the clubrooms at 0900, 0930 and 0945.  All in increasing pace for the ride, do turn up in good time for your group.   We will need keyholders for the day, please post up if that will be you.

We have a surplus of sweet treats still in the club rooms from Sunday so all we really need is a volunteer to make some soup and sandwiches.

While this is the last of the Reliability Runs and we have a few weeks before the fantastic APR events the club will not be going quiet.  We should be able to fit in a couple of Hilly TTs on Saturdays next month and I hope to be able to organise a ‘bring a potential new member’ event that is guaranteed to involve a serving of sausage rolls afterwards.

I expect to be working this Sunday, so do all have a good time.

  5. After two fantastic Reliability Runs so far with decent weather and a superb turnout of members we have a great weather forecast for this Sunday for our Sinclair Street route.

As ever there are the three groups departing from the clubrooms in Miller Street at 0900h, 0930h and 0945h going at increasing pace.  Post up here or on one of the WhatsApp groups to indicate which time you will leaving at.

I am still waiting to see if I get the day off work and be able to come along to this one and confirm what food I can bring along.  But we will still need various key holders for the day.

  6. We up the distance in Reliability Ride #2 for Sunday 12 February.  Looking for another excellent turnout from the beautiful people that make up our entire membership.

    http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/elderslie-sct/reliability-no-2-moscow-route-1787383

There will be the usual three groups

0900 for those who prefer to chat along the way

0930 for those who prefer to stay a bit quieter and ride

0945 for those who prefer to scream on the inside so as not to show weakness

Please turn up In good time to be a part of your chosen bunch as they need to set off sharp.

As ever a modest donation of food for afterwards in the clubrooms is most welcome.  Hot soup, sandwiches and cakes are the usual winners here.

  7. http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/elderslie-sct/reliability-no-1-tour-of-the-shire-route-1730016

The first of our 2023 Reliability Rides, meet up at the club room in Miller Street in good time to go with your intended group.

First group will be off at 0900h, the second will leave at 0930 and the fast riders will leave at 0945.

Please post up if you intend coming along and in which group, the more the merrier but groups should be kept to manageable sizes.

Can we also have a key holder for the clubrooms to allow access before and after.  It is traditional to bring along something for afterwards, soup, sandwiches, tray bakes, etc and if everyone makes a contribution for at least one of the weeks there will be plenty.  While these are events that are confined to club members we do also welcome new members and they are a great introduction to JWCC.  Let us make these fantastic cycling and social events with our club and get the season off to a great start.

  8. A welcome to all club members now reading this, you have now entered the nirvana of JWCC participation that is our Confined Events.  Last year was a mixed bag for these events as we looked at ways to get rider participation across the board.  The Reliability Rides did sort of happen, though it is now clear that we need to factor in bad weather in February.  The APR events were well attended and they will be back.  Using the Georgetown League worked well as those who did them were getting a midweek TT in a well run format.  The Hill Climb Event was a superb day for the club so the misery of that minute and a bit was all worth it.  The Restricted Gear events did not happen and there was only one Hilly TT, if the opportunity arises then we shall keep trying them.

First events of 2023 will be our Reliabilities, the traditional test of rider and steed during the last throws of winter and into spring’s lacklustre arrival.  Along with the traditional set routes the club has used for many years we can also expect the traditional torrential rain to cancel them.  Previously this meant shifting the busy calendar about to reschedule them over less popular events.  Learning from this we have a more rolling schedule that accommodates postponements by allowing a few extra weeks before scheduling our next events.

In summary I will post up the Reliability Rides as they happen, starting with the Tour of Renfrewshire on the 5 February.

Hi Gerrard ,Looks like the Georgetown is on this Wednesday will this still event be on ?

Let us have a show of hands.  If we get three riders and a time keeper we can do the Westferry.  I will commit to the ten miles to start us off, but we need to be organised by Monday so there is the option of switching to the Georgetown League before the cut off.

It may be also simplest to just keep this thread going for whatever we do on over the next few weeks on the Westferry.

  11. A nice evening for a return to the Westferry course, a little bit windy on the way out but that means a tailwind on the return leg.

    Three riders had a go:

    James 23min 29sec

    Gerard 24min 4sec

    Scott 24min 44sec

The best performance of the night was definitely from Dave Cowan who stepped up to time keep and made sure the event went ahead.

With what interested members have said so far about their availability to ride the current thinking is that we ride again next week on the 10th August.  Then we resume two weeks after that on 24th August and then finally the Frank Lauder 10mile TT Championship on the 31 August.

  12. While it is a shame that the Georgetown League has stalled this season due to the temporary traffic lights, it is also an opportunity for us to have a shot at the Westferry course.  Starting on Wednesday 3 August we will meet from 1845 at the Westferry roundabout in time for the first rider going off at 1900.  If all goes well and we have enough riders we can do this for four consecutive weeks with the final week being the Frank Lauder 10m TT.  Front and rear lights are required for this event.  Please post up either here on on WhatsApp if you are coming, either to ride or volunteer as timekeeper.  Member participation is needed if we are to continue to find a new format for our club events.

  13. Meeting up in Port Glasgow at the bus stop just after Newark roundabout at 1000h on Thursday morning.  Planning on heading over to Otter Ferry because the food is good and the C11 is in the way.  Post up if you fancy joining us either at PG or even along at the ferry.

  14. The Georgetown League is now open for entries online, check out the Facebook page for every detail you need.  This year we are trying out using members times from the Georgetown League towards our own Chocolate series to hopefully have more people to include.  I am aware that this does conflict with the Wednesday night social runs, but that means there is now no reason not to get out on your bike.  Once you have done your run please remember to post up your time here on the Bunch, there will be a new thread for each week which should make finding the times easier.

Please not that rear lights are compulsory for this event.
