I believe crampons are being given away free by some hospitals and local councils to their employees. Maybe the Uni can sort you out. If it comes to it you can buy them in Boots. Other chemists are available.

Troops, I'm in the middle of changing my gear cables, they were whipped out a few weeks ago and I can't remember how they entered the downtube. 
If I route them like the picture below, it looks like the inner cables will have to cross before they go through guide beneath bottom bracket. Does anyone know if this crossing will be a problem?

Surpassed myself today. Rode out to bishy hill. Met Paul on the way. Then Billy joined us. Nice wee chat. Rode about for a bit waiting for the bunch. Was at summit of hill already to go when noticed I in smAll chain. Tried to put in big ring but wouldn’t go in so got off bike and tried to do it manually. Chain dropped as Bunch past me. Took a wee while to sort then tried to chase down The Renfra bunch. Ridiculous idea. More chance of getting a date with Julia Roberts than catching them. My very good pal Billy MAC dropped off for me and the two of us did a 60 mile + 2 up. We were not that far behind them as they all still in Largs when we rode in. I showed my annoyance by ignoring them all and comforted myself with a bagel basket coffee. Must say though Billy & I give it. Fair lick & think I worked a lot harder as a 2 up. Billy did reminisce about our previous road races when the 2 of us would be with the bunch for a few minutes get spat out then do a 2 up. Ah memories!!!
ps as non Jwcc event does not qualify as early contender for hamoc

Indeed a cracker, but that wind and my LACK of fitness made for a torrid time. 
 
Thanks to all the chaps for the pacing up the Brisbane Glen, and ultimately waiting at the summits!! 
 
Can't believe Kinky boots Donnelly missed the roll out to his own ride! 3 week ban on posting rides!
 
 
...have I mentioned I hate hills and Ayrshire roads? Busy few weekends ahead for me unfortunately.... transmitter hill next week anyone?

Yip. Good to see a big bunch out. Bit grim going through Port Glesga but ended up nice.
Good to see prospective new member, William, out. Hope you enjoyed riding in a big bunch. You’ll get the hang of it soon, I’m sure.

Alan not original poster but it is a main bunch not a training run and bunch rules apply and I wouldn't wish a solo coast run on anybody. If push comes to shove you could always rejoin the coast at some point i.e off the whin. Up to you but faster and longer is a relative term and should not be co-opted to exclude people especially not people who have been part of main bunch previously and maybe coming back to a bit of fitness,  or actually ride a winter bike as opposed to full carbon with kid on mudguards.

too much moaning. I will be at club rooms for 9.30 am depart. Will probably arrive at Erskine bridge just before 10.00 and can pick up slackers. As long as u don’t have deep set rims u will be fine. 11 degrees is positively tropical

I've put my foot down and demanded I ride my bike tomorrow before I go mental! Anyone interested let me know so we can make arrangements.

Myself, Paul and Eric would be interested in organising the Don Smith event.

After a week off the bike here I was turning up for the usual renfrew bunch. Before Largs burnt some matches and chipped of the front in the head wind and stayed away...it seems bunch didn't have appetite to chase and let me go. After a quick break in largs we set off to do a slightly different route (I thought!), or radical as Paul described it...the last stretch towards Barrhead/Paisley (I think) was intresting with 6 of us left out of a good size bunch, but at that point I was running out of fuel and decided I had enough. Had no clue where I was but luckily we caught Jan on that stretch that joined me and gave me some direction .
Found my way...75 miles on the clock...good ride but a bit too long for me. I'm more of a 45-50 miles with a punch .

OK George. Me and Scott Donaldson (ex-wheeler) have entered and will be booking accommodation for the Saturday night soon. Lots of spaces left, so should be ok if you have to decide nearer the time.

OK Robbie. Will keep you posted. Lots of spaces left at the moment.
