Carol ,Mary and Dave started out in wet conditions but it eventually dried up. The cycle track from Dumbarton to Balloch alongside the Leven river has been tarmaced since the last time we rode it a few years ago and is an excellent flat, smooth and scenic route in places. We made our way to Lomond shores for a coffee, scone and cheesecake stop. Returned via Alexandria/ Renton road, over the bridge  and left Mary at the Georgetown turn off. Good to catch up with you Mary. Just over 40miles.  Carol

Weather forecast looking abit wet for Sunday but if dry how about a run North of the Clyde to the shores of Loch Lomond,
Clubrooms at 9.00am  Moss Road to Erskine Bridge, clyde cycle track to Dumbarton and  then track following the River Leven. Coffee stop options at Balloch or Lomond Shores. Return via Bonhill. This is a fairly flat route on a good track surface.

    Hello All,

Just 4 weeks to go to the Presentation Dance   Whaur's the party, then?     It's Party time!... or as I prefer to call it The Awards Ceremony!

There are some exciting raffle prizes in the bag already, but we would very much welcome your prize donations for the Raffle   A wee bit of help.   A wee bit of help.  A wee bit of help. .

If you could pm me to indicate intention to donate to the raffle, just so I have an idea of number of prizes (prize details not necessary), that would be great. Prizes can either be brought on the night or I can arrange an uplift from the club.

    Many thanks for your support.

Well, Alan you missed the better half of the ride after you left us at Milgarvn!

It was a wet start to the day when I joined the bunch of 4 of Iain Couttie, Charlie, Alan T & Alan Michael at the end of Georgetown Road as I was running late and could not make it to the clubroom.
The bunch was briefly swelled to 8 when we picked up Iain Mcginty, Alan Fox & Big Al at the bridge, that didn't last long as Iain C was push for time and left us to do his own thing after the bridge.

So the 7 of us went round the intended route climbing the Crow and went as far as Kilearn where the decision was made to head straight back to the Westend via Strathblane, instead of Croftamie. It was wet & we wanted to be in the Westend by 1pm, where we met Mark to find a good spot to watch the race.
Byres road was just too busy so we ended up in Gibson Street and settled in the "Left Bank Bar", where upon beer, coffee, soup & chips was the order of the day. David B made a guest appearance for a while and we also met Kev. Habbick who only lived down the road.

This was one of the best cafe stop I've had in a long time, 2 & a half hour drying our self indoors watching the race on the smart phone while rushing out to greet the riders every time it came past outside the bar. The atmosphere were fantastic, helicopter hovering in the sky and police motorcycle wizzing past reminds me of the Tour & Roubaix, except in Glasgow, pure magic!

In the end, a well deserved winner in T. Geraints in a tough course with horrible weather. It's a bit of a shame David Miller or other Scottish rider wasn't in the final mix, but at least it was home nation rider.

After the race finished, we even manage to ride part of the course from the Westend to Glasgow Green to the annoyance of some of the stewarts still on the course, but the dispersing crowd loved it and cheered us on :-) "Com'on the Johnstone" someone shouted from the crowd :-)
Big Al, being the humble man that he is lapped it up and really enjoyed the appreciative/confused crowd as he raised his arm as if taking the win down Argyll Street - the mans a class act absolutely brilliant!

Thanks for the wheels guys today on what was a wet but fantastic day on & off the bike!

Right, I'm away to dry myself now!

Good luck to the RideLondon team next Sunday, have a good one!

    Cheers

Many thanks to Ken for posting/choice of route ( I'll let someone else provide the detail); a really enjoyable run out in very nice weather conditions and some great views. We were a bunch of nine in total, including two newcomers - Phillpo and Andy - and it was good, too, to see the return of Kev Habbick . A truly fabulous effort on the mountain bike by the way - well done! Ken/Phillipo headed home as time limited, whilst the rest of us headed over Phil's Folly to Lochwinnoch, where practically EVERY cyclist in the central belt had descended on the cafe - it was a really good atmosphere and great to see such numbers out!

    It's Party time!

I had 55 on the clock when I got home.

    See you next time, Mary

Hello Andy - the clubroom is a single story building behind grey railings, on LHS at the far end of Miller Street, past the ice cream depot (think that's what it is!) - it's just where you get on the track - we'll keep an eye out for you.

    See you tomorrow
