  1. If this does go ahead I'll timekeep, then those who want to are free to ride.
  2. Well said Mia, I enjoy Arran but only in good weather. I'll confine my sport tomorrow to watching it on TV.
  3. It's looking promising for this run, I'll be at Miller St. for 08:00 to cycle down to the ferry.
  4. I should be up for this, I think I can remember the wee bridge, wee width wise as opposed to length wise, but will need to look up how to find it and how many extra miles it adds!
  5. I'll be along for this one, I've not done it anticlockwise yet.
  6. I'm planning to cycle to see some of the TT on Cumbrae. Leaving The Pullman in Kilmacolm at 09:00, going to Largs via Brisbane Glen and getting a ferry around 11:00 (their running every 15 mins.) About 20 miles for the outboud leg, return options include Hayle Brae and Fairlie Moor with extra miles and hills. All welcome to come along for all or part of the day.
  7. I'll be along for this one, it's not one of my most frequent cafés but I recall enjoying it last time.
  8. I'll come along for a gentle ride, so long as there's a café stop!
  9. Alan, I'll not be at Miller St. but will see you at the start at 9:45.
  10. I'm not fit enough to take part in this, but happy to come along and join in the fun by helping out in whatever way may be required on the day.
  11. I plan on being there for 09:00, will see if I can bring some baking.
  12. Sounds like a good trip Chung, I have other commitments at that time so can only look forward to your tour report. I endorse Alan's suggestion of a bar bag, great for navigation, snacks, camera and the like. I use a Carradice one, it's not perfect but it's not the most expensive on the market and it's done the job for about 3,000 miles of touring. For panniers I stand by our Ortliebs easy to mount and dismount fro the bike, never let any water in, and after years of sometimes hard use still look like new, though if your going lightweight you might get away with bikepacking gear. for a loaded bike I'd be tempted to go up to 28mm tyres if you've got a frame that will take them. I suggest booking up accommodation before you go, we told them we would be travelling by bike and found all our European accommodations were happy to store the bike securely indoors. A few photos of bikes loaded for touring to get you in the mood, note it's the same luggage on various bikes....

    Strava issues

I use Android, but have had similar problems in the past with old phones that I put down to the phone being to 'busy' doing other things. I found that making sure it didn't have to many apps running in the background, switching of the wifi, and making sure it had lots of memory helped. On Android there are lots of apps that can record record your ride for you and then upload it to Strava when you finish - I assume there are similar ones for Apple. They can also work as a cycle computer with a suitable handlebar mount. you could buy several good Android devices for the price of a Garmin and then choose with apps to record you rides on based on your favorite on the day.

    Spied a Wheeler

I put my hand up to this one.
  15. A fairly short trip as I've not been out for a while, so I've plotted a 40 mile round trip on Strava, out via Dunlop, returning by Kilburnie and back road to Lochwinnoch. It should get us to the Mill shortly after it opens at 11 for the best choice of scones and cakes. 09:30 at the Club Rooms, all welcome - alternative routes always an option for if anyone is more of less ambitious.
  16. It would be good to see you Boyd, but due to family commitments I will not be out for this run. Will catch up another time.
  17. I've now got family commitments so will not be out for this run.
  18. I've not been on an intermediate run for a while, but thinking of Fairlie Moor, Bagel Basket and Brisbane Glen. It would be great to have some company!
  19. Thanks Paul, great fun and a good introduction to the CX world. The muck came off easily enough, and I hope to have another shot next week. It was a lot harder work than I expected!
  20. I got a disc gravel bike a couple of years ago as a winter bike, and have used it as you plan to: road tyres and mudguards in the winter, and the supplied CX style tyres in the summer for off road. I've been really pleased with it in both roles, I got it as a previous years model on a Black Friday deal from Evans, so it was close to second hand prices, but without the wear and tear. If you can wait a couple of months there should be some deals coming along on 2017 models as the 2018 ones arrive in the shops.
