    Hi Guys,
Having spent the last few years working abroad, I've now retired and returned home. Not wanting to turn into a full-blown couch potato, I'd like to re-join the mighty Wheelers. Assuming you may actually let me back in, can someone advise on how best to go about this please?
    Cheers,
    Frank

Good turnout today for the mural unveiling - after that a ride over the Crow and then a loop through Killearn and Strathblane and back to the start.
I’d like the record to state i was joint first to the top of the Crow - beating everyone else including the former Tour de France polka dot jersey winner in the process. A show of strength from Scotlands premier cycling club to the watching media.....I may have started 5 minutes before everyone else but it still counts 🤣

Remember riding this in early 80s  Robert Millar won it from Drew Brunton in what would have been a photo finish these days  . They escaped at heads of Ayr when a horse unseated its rider and split race apart . I was in the break chasing and when we were coming down the  Nick of Balloch John Clanky Clark was descending like a demon we overtook the motorcycle marshals who couldn't keep ahead of us on the bends . Remember a hairpin bend with a bridge and my bars scraping the wall as we came round as my back wheel skidded on loose gravel . Cracking race with some tough climbs .  Ivy had Clanky , Ian Thomson , Davie Whitehall and Jim Mcmanus who took it in turns to attack break  all the way in from the NIck  .  Managed to get a 6th place on my first time riding it .

Goodness knows where this misinformation came from!
The Covid19 Update I published on The Forum (for all to read and take personal responsibility for) is clear that there is currently NO CHANGE to the Scottish Cycling (Scottish Government) guidance and rules on bunch rides, provided they are properly adhered to we will have no issues.
There has been some nonsense written on certain WhatsApp groups today, please ignore this.
In brief, as things stand, a bunch ride could consist of up to 30 riders. Sensible, low risk riding is generally encouraged, to minimise the likelihood of crashes and so protect NHS resources. Normal social distancing, hand hygiene and self sufficiency i.e. no sharing of food, bike tools and spares. On stopping, before, during and after the ride societal rules apply - face masks on entering premises, 6 persons/2 household rule (i.e. enter and sit in cafes in pairs), abide by and respect requests by local retailers.
At least one sensible person per bunch to remind others of these basic requirements and to take names and contact details for the club register for NHS Test & Protect. Ideally this individual will let me know in advance that they will undertake this, probably the ride organiser. Send your list on to me as soon as possible on completion of the activity.
All activities posted on The JWCC Forum, JWCC WhatsApp, JWCC FBook etc will qualify as club organised rides and ARE reportable - no exceptions.
All riders involved, be they club members or 'guests' to be included (Coronavirus does not discriminate) - no exceptions.
No doubt there will be changes to the guidance over time and I will provide any updates as they arise.
Please make all our lives easier!
    With thanks,
    Eric (Club Covid19 Co-ordinator)

    Thanks for the info Mul.
I wouldn't worry overly much about the the BC Zwift race series Billy. You can choose not to do them. Also, the advice above in Mul's post probably supersedes early statements or announcements by BC/SC. As for clarity - a premium commodity these days. I know of a number of global CEOs who'd sell their mums for some right now. Perhaps err of the side of caution, as the elderly are supposed to be at high risk. 🤧😷

It is long Charlie - even with 10 miles off for the ferries (and about 10000ft Marco ). You could go straight up the main road to Inveraray but I really wouldn’t recommend it. Get an early ferry and enjoy it !
Or do what Richard of Montague and I did and ride out to Portavadie over the Rest first 😳

Hope you are taking Loch Awe route from Lochgilphead Charlie - do not take the then main road ! Head along the track beside the Crinan canal at Ardrishaig. Keep on canal path to Bellanoch then cross canal on B8025, Go through Kilmartin ( good cafe ) and take a right after Kilmartin heading for Ford. Beautiful quiet road along Scotland’s longest freshwater loch, Follow loch Awe and head for Inveraray.  Stunning route and plenty of history - look out for Dunnadd ( ancient capital of Dalriada) and the burial mounds at  Kilmartin - would love to join you.

All the best George...very brave to speak out and I would hazard a guess that your feelings will be familiar to a lot of people, to one extent or other, either 1st hand or with someone they know and perhaps love.
One of the things I love about the bike is the feeling of freedom and just "switching off", making it into a competition just erodes this.
Keep on riding.....hint it's even more enjoyable without a computer.
    Davie.

    Hi people,
the title of my post might have set alarm bells ringing. Sorry for that.
So.... I’ve not been well for the past 3-4 years. Up & down. Making bad choices then punishing myself for it. Caught in a loop. Eventually went to get help.
Basically l, I had a really bad experience when I was young that I hidaway from.Denied it happened. Beat myself up for it.
Eventually, I sought help. I was referred to a councillor and a CBT therapist. I won’t lie, having to discuss my issues and experiences was brutal.
Why am I telling you this? Because if I hadn’t I probably wouldn’t be here.
Things got so bad that, what I thought was my salvation, “cycling” became toxic. Watching my weight, training, trying to keep up &, as life unravelled, being dropped was very crushing. I saw cycling as being my validation but it became a pressure & a stressor.
Thanks to mental health professionals & some very good friends in the club who have given me council, I’m on the mend. Thanks, guys.
I’m still cycling but for now I’m just going out when I feel like it. I’m also eating like a horse with no qualms or worries about “racing weight” I never raced much anyway!
Why am I posting this? We live in a society that is so driven by aspiration and the need to “get on” and compete. I’ve come to the conclusion that after my experiences I’m just lucky to be here. I’m quite proud to be alive.
So my message is- if you are struggling, don’t be ashamed to seek help and if you think a friend is struggling don’t shy away from asking if they are ok.
    you just might savesomeone’s life.
If you are struggling and looking for help, message me. I might not have the answers but I can signpost you to people who can help you.
It’s ok not to be ok!
