DavieB reacted in WOSCA GGCC 10th July Part 2
Good night last night. It wasn't too fast on either of the laps so I was fairly successful in staying near the front while conserving some energy for the finish. I finished 8th overall which, as Paul said, was 1st junior and 3rd cat 4. It was nice to get some prizes.
Thanks again for the lift home Andy.

DavieB got a reaction from Darryl Gunson in Tuesday night
Darryl,
I still have your knee warmers (which have already done one club run neatly folded in my back pockets) and figure in this type of weather you might be needing them!!
Will try and hook up with you tomorrow night to return them but may not go the full route.
Cheers,
D

BTW...I enjoyed it while it lasted
Also should mention it's almost a surreal sight to watch Hugh serenely float up the climbs and pass you as you and most around you are eyeballs out...great stuff!

Don't compromise. Get the stealth. It will do absolutely fine as an audax or sportive bike when you want to do them.
Also, you're only a low single figure % away from hinging on to the end. The good news is the final % point is in the head.
Hugh, well done, indeed lots of potential there, you are one of the most natural climbers I've ever had the discomfort to observe at close quarters !

DavieB reacted to P McDonald in Neilston Nocturne 5th June 2012
Guys
I got a long email at 2.30am from the chap who 'instigated' the crash last night. He had just got back from hospital. He would like to pass on his sincere apologies to the affected JWCC riders. As always there are 2 sides to every story. On a personal note I apologised for referring to him as a nutter without understanding the whole picture.
Bottom line is that road racing is dangerous, accidents do happen and you have to go into it with your eyes open.

A club run has been destroyed, bunch etiquette is dead, and the key to this mystery lies with the only survivor and his twisted, convoluted story beginning with five lycra clad loons in a seemingly random exercise in half wheeling.

Its ok George, Billy's feet are always on the ground, too much weight to lift no matter how big his head gets!
P.S anyone want to buy Billy's bike?

If the group is working properly you should never open up a gap, the strong person should just stay at the front longer!!

DavieB reacted to Alan McLean in Bishopbriggs triathlon-
It has been a miserable spring but I finally gave the JWCC trisuit an airing at this busy event with competitors from 7-70.
After a splash round the lazy river we covered four laps of an out and back 5k bike route, then a 5k warm down jog along the canal path.
The 90 degree corners and dead turns provided some hilarious examples of triathlete bike handling skills, maybe not so funny for folk pulling themselves out of ditches. (Actually it WAS quite funny to watch.) The strong crosswind almost gave me my own HEOTBHS while descending fast on aerobars and deep section wheels.
There are usually a few bike club rejects like myself at these triathloning events but this was a full-on trigeek affair and I did not see any of the usual roadie types.
There was a super atmosphere with lots of youth and junior racers and family racing. Big congratulations to our youth riders including Heather Fleming (skiving off exam leave) and Iona and Katrina Miller who were both second in their age groups, and Sarah Bradford who was track racing on Wed,won the Bella crit on Thursday, and won her race today :banana .
I got third vet but the gap between me and the real racers in their late teens and twenties is growing fast. The elastic is going to snap this year in my last season as a vet. I've spent ten years being crushed by unemployed students with unlimited training time and now I am going to get crushed by early retirees in their fifties with UTT. (Fortunately the NHS has promised to employ me until I'm 67 so I should get a few years of really focussed training in my early 70s).
Anyway the season has started, stay tuned for more gripping reports.

Well summed up Chung ...a cracking trip where the weather didn't stop play with my Garmin reporting over 400 miles with excess of 25,000ft of climbing in the week. The Sa Calobra in particular was stunning, almost unwordly, and just felt priviledged being there to be honest.
Would highly recommend as a cycling trip with the Hotel Duva being a great base really well set up for cycling - I would see myself going back.
Roll on next years trip....French Pyranees would be good (round Luchon area) but have been looking at the hotels / set-up of Paul's regular stamping grounds of the Costa Blanca and this might be a good early season shout given flights, costs etc.

DavieB reacted to P McDonald in Sunday 24th March - Main Bunch
I just missed youse at the BB. I had wanted to go over Loch Thom so I went on cross bike in case of snow. Timed things to meet you at BB. However the moor road involved clambering through a lot of snow drifts, some about 8 ft deep but you could run over the crusty top and only sink in to your knees ! Then punctured when I hit a bit of metal in the snow about 2 miles from Largs when hands were numb.
Arrived at BB on my knees and heard you left 15 mins earlier.
So quick cuppa, up Heely where I met Tony C then home.
Has a vintage You've been Framed moment when I was descending in soft snow in middle of road as the tractor ruts were too icy, saw a deep drift, too slippy to brake so tried to surf it. Doh, it was about 3 ft deep and I did a somersault into the soft snow.

DavieB got a reaction from Colin McPhee in 10 March Restricted Gear ITT
Right, daft me trying to get some pre event organisation for this. Is the start list in order the following....
1. Grieg
2. Elaine
3. Dave
4. Carol Cowan
5. Stephen M
6. Colin McPhee
7. Iain Couttie
8. Any Gumley
9. Greg Balden
10. Hugh McGrade
11. Phil Malcolm
First rider off at 10:00hrs, then at 2 min intervals? If you intend to ride but are not on the list can you shout up please.
Third time of asking, but here goes nothing.....Will anybody be there to assist me to ensure I don't make a complete mess of this?
Methinks we as a club should get a wee bit better at organising these things ...maybe the club members who regularly ride these should be assigned an event and asked to "run it", with the pre-requisites that TT's have a pre-determined start list and ride times, maybe one for a committee discussion but I don't mind doing my bit.

Guys,
Back home OK.
Done my own thing at the top of the Clune and ambled home via Kilmalcolm, Lochwinnoch.
OK trundling along at my own pace but can't do a spell or hold a wheel, it's getting a bit frustrating but hey ho!
Hope you enjoyed the rest of the run.

Enjoy Phil,
Port de Bales is an absolute cracker went up it the year after the tour visited so had pristine tarmac, the views and atmosphere (cowbells ringing and birds of prey circling) are absolutely stunning and beat the Tourmalet for me.
I know the dates don't suit some but we should really try and get a club outing to the high mountains of the Tour or Giro some time.....iconic places.
BTW the coobells were round' the necks of coo's not in some madmans hands.

DavieB reacted to DavieB in New Year's Day run
Looks like its the only decent day of the week so anybody up for a run on the day after the night before.
Plan would be for decent miles at a purposeful pace with a minimum of faffing around to ensure a decent work out and being home for a reasonable time.
If interested post.
