  2. Jann, The new British Cycling membership subscription page looks good. Very professional looking. I hope we see some members making use of the facility. Just for information, you can purchase the membership for yourself or for someone else, so it would be ideal for parents renewing the subscriptions for their Jets when the time comes. Also, the following payment methods are available; Visa Credit Card Visa Debit/Delta/Connect Mastercard Maestro Solo Cheers Allan

  10. Slight change of tact. Has anyone used http://www.stephenroche.com/ in Mallorca? Their website looks exactly what I'm looking for in terms of a goal to work towards to motivate me to get back on my bike!
  11. Thanks for the feedback Tony. I will most likely be going solo so the thought of meeting other people in an organised holiday appeals. But I will review CTC. Cheers Allan

  14. Sad to see you leaving Greig. Good luck with your new hobbies and the long distance trucking! Take care and hopefully bump into you some time. Allan
  15. Hello everyone. I have had reports that members of The Bunch are not receiving emails from the forum when they have chosen to "follow a topic". This can be caused by your email provider not seeing JWCC emails as safe and subsequently rejecting them. To combat this issue, please be sure to add the Johnstone Wheelers domain (@johnstone-wheelers.co.uk) to your safe senders list, commonly referred to as a white-list. Furthermore, please add [email protected] and [email protected] to your contact list to ensure you receive all emails sent from JWCC. If you have any queries, please contact me at [email protected] or private message me. Thanks Allan
  16. The JWCC mailing list I use is based on the email addresses that paid members have subscribed with. From memory, that isn't your Gmail address. If it was, please let me know. Allan.
  17. Alan, (sorry for the lengthy response - but you did ask ) It could be that you have registered for something on the internet using your Gmail account and this has unfortunately been picked up by a spammer (they trawl the Web for email addresses to spam). Using a MAC has no bearing on your Gmail account being spammed, but may have a bearing on how spam email is handled. Your email account is web based and therefore a target for spammers regardless of how you access it, PC, MAC, Phone etc. If your email address has been targeted, then you can set up filters and whitelists to prevent the spam hitting your inbox. These need trained to recognise legitimate email so this can take some fiddling to set up. This link discusses setting up filters and whitelists in Gmail http://lifehacker.com/when-gmails-filters-arent-enough-how-to-tackle-spam-513920584. Furthermore, Google, like all providers, sometimes alter their spam detection algorithm to combat the changing tactics of spammers. This then requires your spam filters to be re-trained to detect spam and to differentiate it from legitimate email. Also, if you try to unsubscribe from a spam type email there's a good chance you will just be letting the spammer know you have a "live" email address, thus opening yourself up to increased amounts of spam. Only unsubscribe from legitimate mailing lists. Do you use a mail client to pull email onto your MAC, such as AppleMail, Airmail, Outlook or Powermail? If so, then I recommend a program called Spamsieve http://c-command.com/spamsieve/. It's free to trial and only costs $30 USD to purchase. The author of this article describes Spamsieve as indispensable http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/01/rethinking-the-never-unsubscribe-rule-for-spam/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0. I will PM you my mobile number should you need any assistance. Feel free to call. Cheers Allan
  18. Dear Members, The upgrade to The Bunch forum was performed successfully at just after midnight on Saturday. With no users on-line at midnight, Big Front Door decided to bring forward the upgrade to minimise impact on our members. Furthermore, our site was moved to a new host server to resolve intermittent availability issues that occurred over the last couple of days. We are now running on the latest and most secure version of IP Board software. You should not notice anything different with this new version, but should you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected] Regards, Allan
  19. Dear members, Big Front Door plan to undertake the upgrade to The Bunch forum at 10am on Sunday 27th July, at which time most members will be out on club runs. The forum will be down for about 1 hour, with a full back up being taken prior to the upgrade being applied. All existing threads will remain and all login details will remain the same. I will advise upon successful completion of the upgrade. Thanks Allan [email protected]
  20. Greg, I'll keep an eye on the post to see what the situation is with cars. Ideally I'd like to take my bike to give it an outing, so I will see how things pan out with the thread. Allan
  21. I just bought a new Scott Scale 970 from Thomsons and I'm itching to try it out. Never done anything like that before so would be very interested in this, especially if someone was prepared to drive (I don't drive). I will follow this post with interest. Allan
  22. Hello, I noticed the posts in the MTB section are a bit dated, so I was wondering if there is still a MTB element in the club? I'm due to pick up my new mountain bike from club sponsor, Thomsons Cycles, this Friday and was wondering what's on offer in the local area with respect to trails etc. Any advice welcomed. Allan
  23. Welcome to The Bunch “The Bunch†is the name of the community forum associated with the Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club, and is maintained by members of Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club. It should be regarded as an independent resource run in support of cyclists everywhere. Registration to The Bunch is free and carries no obligation. Anyone can read The Bunch but a "Member" is one who has registered and is thus able to post their own messages and to reply to messages of other Members. We all share a love of cycling but otherwise may have quite different opinions and views. The Bunch is a public forum and the world’s window on JWCC, read by Jets and other young people. We ask simply that members continue, as they generally do, to exercise discretion and responsibility in what they post. The administration team will remove any content that may damage the reputation of The Bunch or of Johnstone Wheelers Cycling Club, or which might lower the standing of the sport in the public eye. Should you require any assistance then please email [email protected] for further assistance or guidance. Forum Usernames & Profile Pictures Members who choose nicknames or profile pictures that are inflammatory, vulgar, promotional, or rude will be requested to change them. Failure to do so may result in a temporary or permanent ban from The Bunch. Language and Trolling The Bunch is a family-friendly and public environment. There are young users and language should be kept civilised at all times. Vulgar language is not allowed. This constitutes the use of any kind of offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate material deemed unsafe for younger members. Posts containing inappropriate language will potentially be removed and users will be warned over future conduct. Do not post provocative, outrageous, or pointless messages only to get a response from others, i.e. "trolling." Repeat violators will be permanently banned from posting on The Bunch. Lastly, if it is abundantly clear that a user has no intention of positively contributing to a discussion, combined with an abrasive, combative attitude, their posts will be removed and the user will be advised on future conduct. Repeat offenders may be subject to a temporary or permanent ban from The Bunch. Personal Attacks In order to maintain a positive atmosphere, no personal attacks or insults will be tolerated. While discussions may become heated, it is not an excuse to resort to attacks or insults. There is a difference between a passionate, respectful discussion and one that delves into personal matters. Think of it as debating issues, not individuals. Should a discussion appear to contain personal attacks then it may be subject to closure and removal by the administration team. Should a dispute between members occur then you are encouraged to use the Private Message (PM) facility to resolve the dispute. Do not use our public forums for this purpose. Copyright and Piracy Members are asked to respect the copyright of other members, sites, media, etc. Any posts that appear to infringe copyright policy or link to illegal download sites will be removed immediately. Repeat offenders may be subject to a temporary or permanent ban from The Bunch. Self-Promotion is Spam Any post that is considered advertising for one's self-interests, including the promotion of any site one is affiliated with, may be subject to removal by the administration team. Repeat offenders may be subject to a temporary or permanent ban from The Bunch. While you are allowed to promote your web site(s) in your signature, you are not permitted to post links to sites you run or are in any way affiliated with. Only our Sponsors are allowed to promote their services in the “Sponsors Special Offers To Members†forum. However, it is acceptable to post links to websites or services directly related to cycling, e.g. sales of cycling equipment etc, but due consideration must be given to our sponsors, who may also offer similar services. Cross-Posting If you have something to post and you're not sure which board it belongs in, do not post it in more than one board. The Administration team reserves the right to move any post to a more appropriate forum should they see fit. Duplicate threads only serve to create confusion and will be removed. Signatures It is recommended that a Signature (sig) contains no more than five lines of small or normal size text (a "line" being that displayed on a browser opened to 800px width) and/or a single image of no more than 60px high, 468px wide and 6KB in size. Text sizes should be between 9px and 12px (small and normal). Text in signatures is subject to the same conditions as posts with respect to content. In case of doubt, submit your suggested sig line to the Administration Team by e-mail to who will be pleased to advise, and whose decision is final. Multiple Accounts Per Individual Are Not Permitted If you forget your password, use the password recovery tool, in which case you will be able to reset your password, given that you have access to the e-mail associated with your account. If you are still unable to login, contact an administrator. Administrators & Committee Have the Final Word If you have a problem or a complaint, direct it to a site administrator not to the forums. The appropriate actions will be taken. We reserve the right to ban flagrant offenders when deemed necessary, with or without prior warning. Kind Regards JWCC Committee.
  24. Dear Members, Further to discussions with our website and Bunch forum host, Big Front Door, we intend to upgrade the software used to host The Bunch over the weekend of 25th July 2014. This upgrade will bring JWCC up to the latest, most secure version of the software. Downtime will be limited to about 30 minutes and the upgrade will be conducted well out of business hours at a typically quiet period. A more detailed schedule will be made available nearer the time. Please let me know if you have any questions. Allan [email protected]
