Brilliant night. Too tired to say much other than many many excellent results from wheelers and jets.
    Chapeau team.
Final B race was combined with A race as there were so many drop outs through the evening. Alan, Lewis and I found it very ' interesting ' and somewhat challenging

think best of the night was Mr McTavish (Jan Ullrich) with 2 firsts, a second and a third in the C's? Lewis Mul with a couple of firsts on good form too. 12 wheelers podiums out of 33 available, good show all round!

    All,

As there are a number of club members that continually choose to spoil a good bike ride with running and/or swimming ( ), I have created a new section of the bunch for all things triathlon/duathlon.

It has been a miserable spring but I finally gave the JWCC trisuit an airing at this busy event with competitors from 7-70.

After a splash round the lazy river we covered four laps of an out and back 5k bike route, then a 5k warm down jog along the canal path.

The 90 degree corners and dead turns provided some hilarious examples of triathlete bike handling skills, maybe not so funny for folk pulling themselves out of ditches. (Actually it WAS quite funny to watch.) The strong crosswind almost gave me my own HEOTBHS while descending fast on aerobars and deep section wheels.

There are usually a few bike club rejects like myself at these triathloning events but this was a full-on trigeek affair and I did not see any of the usual roadie types.

There was a super atmosphere with lots of youth and junior racers and family racing. Big congratulations to our youth riders including Heather Fleming (skiving off exam leave) and Iona and Katrina Miller who were both second in their age groups, and Sarah Bradford who was track racing on Wed,won the Bella crit on Thursday, and won her race today :banana .

I got third vet but the gap between me and the real racers in their late teens and twenties is growing fast. The elastic is going to snap this year in my last season as a vet. I've spent ten years being crushed by unemployed students with unlimited training time and now I am going to get crushed by early retirees in their fifties with UTT. (Fortunately the NHS has promised to employ me until I'm 67 so I should get a few years of really focussed training in my early 70s).

Anyway the season has started, stay tuned for more gripping reports.

    Hi All,

Here are my take on the trip, also some Garmin stats & photos for anyone thats interested.
Most of us only went for 5 days, so others can fill in the gaps before we arrived & after we left.

    Day 1 Saturday
Arrived at hotel after lunch time with really bad weather. So, no bike ride, just settling in & building up bikes and chilling out.

    Day 2 Sunday
Terrible weather again, but made it out for a short ride to Formentor (light house) with Ritchie after we got lost from DavieB & Richard. We dumped into Darryl & Paul in their car up the climb after their early morning "gym session".
The first part of the climb before the 1st viewing point was great with smooth new tarmac only to be spoiled by "slow" descending coaches. The fog was pretty bad near the top and visibility was not ideal but we made it to the end. The ride through the nu-lit tunnel was a really surreal & scary moment indeed!

    Day 3 Monday
Another p*ss day of weather, but after a lot of he-hor-ing we eventually made it out for nearly everyone around 2ish to explore the nearby hills. From Pollenca to Lluc passing the monestry, we all climb as a group all the way up to the jubction of Sa Calobra but time was late so a quick descend back to PP were we formed a train with a group of English cyclist with some very expensive & posh bikes indeed.

    Day 4 Tuesday
At last the sun came out and the whole place change- the atmosphere & mood of the group transformed to one of frustrated hope to eager anticipation. An early start of 9am for the whole group of 15 set out to do a few "hills".
Pollenca - Campenet - Alaro - Orient (climb)- Bunyola (Cafe stop) - Soller (climb)- Puig Major (climb) - Lluc - Pollenca
What a hard & magnificent day of cycling, the climb & switch backs was hard but the descend was absolutely brilliant.
I never really like descending back here, but the smooth roads & the layout of it made me enjoyed the descending so much more, it really did put a bug smile on my face.

    Day 5 Wednesday
Sunshine again! We didn't all go out as one group today, some want to take it a did easier from the day before. So, Billy, Charlie, Al, Richard, Davie, Scott, Ritchie & myself went as a group heading towards Ritchie's must do list for this trip - Sa Calobra (he wanted to go because he saw Bradley Wiggins did it for his training)
Pollenca - Campenet - Caimari - Lluc (climb) - descend into Sa Calobra - (lunch) - ascent of Sa Calobra (climb) - Pollenca

    Day 6 Return to Glasgow

The trip for me has been brilliant, I have been trying to go to Majorca on 2 previous occasion but failed on both times due to volcanic ash & airline going bust. So, for me it was a long time coming & I thoroughly enjoy the whole trip even with the poor weather to start with. I would definetly go back again in the further, it has so much to offer us cyclist. The hotel we stayed in was fantastic with great facilities for everyone, but particularly cyclist!
On a separate not - Billy get some proper tyres & try to look where you're going, 7 punctures on this trip must be a record even by your own high standard!
Tom, I hope you get your bike & Rapha gear sorted after coming down on those slippery when wet lime stone roads!

Duly took my place at the start line in the pishing rain with 80 others for this. Spent the first two miles trying to move forward without much success. The race fragmented when two guys went away on the second lap only for one of them to go down on a bend result broken arm. I decided that getting round in one piece was now a priority and didn't take any chances. Joined a chasing group of 5 others who were working well together all be it at a slightly slower pace at times managed to catch up with a few others who had dropped of the first group and felt stronger as the race went on. Didn't warm up properly - not a good idea with some fast cat 4's and a tough headwind in places. Good day ou though and decent loop.

Well there was certainly endurance in in the endurance night. Might just be the best nights track racing so far I reckon. 160 laps of mostly eyeballs out racing. Never more than 100 before.

    B group had
    A wee 10 lap warmer ( Lewis 1st, me 3rd)
A 40 lap scratch, ( me 5th, Lewis saving his legs wisely)
A 50 lap points, (blank results)
Than the coup de grace, a 60 lap scratch ( Lewis 2nd by a whisker, me 4th)

    Magnifico

The courses were announced today for the events in June - 20th for the TT and 23rd for the road race

The city centre circuit isn't a surprise but now the roads are known - Think Gibson Street could be the best bit for viewing, its not a huge hill but think the atmosphere there could be pretty good. The time trial course starting and finishing in Stewarton is a bit out of left field.

Camped at Glencoe Mountain Resort on Fri night, ready for the early start on Sat. Started out with a couple of guys from my work, with only two of us sharing the work for the first 20 or so miles into a headwind. I suffered for this after about 100 miles when I hit the climb out of Bridge of Orchy. It was every man for himself at this point. The climb to the finish line at Glencoe Mountain Resort was painfull!
Excellent route with great roads and scenery. Glad to have survived the 106 miles, but my legs were shredded at the end of the six and a half hour stint.

3 joansin ladies started but were really unlucky to be forced right to the very back of the bunch at the start . Elaine , Carol & Jann started off together and that was the last i saw them till they got back to the start for lap number 2 , Elaine was the first wheeler up the 15% hill at the start and Carol was 16 mins behind her this is where she decided to retire as she had been unwell all week and felt sick . We waited for Jann to start her 2nd lap but no sign of her till she appeared in her car and in her own words she was gubbed. I got a phone call from Elaine saying she had just suffered her first blow out and Carol and i headed off to try and rescue her but a service car was with her after about 10 mins and gave her a wheel so that she could finish the race . With precious time lost she was at this point in last place with about 7 miles to go and her nearest wheel was roughly 4 miles in front of her so we headed back to the finish line and waited for her and to everyones surprise Elaine had caught the girls in front of her and went past them on the hill so not to finish last i think her place was about 40 out of around 50 starters but a few didnt do the 2nd lap for various reasons

Well done to all 3 for taking part

3 marshals short at this point so sorry but may need to invoke club rules about marshalling instead of racing. There were 9 JWCC entries but now 7 as Mark and Ramsay are helping out instead.

I have allocated some jobs for next week, let me know if you want a change of duties. I am 3 marshals short. In that event I will do one position and do a random draw of the other 6 JWCC entries to see which other 2 need to help out.

    What I have is

    Lead car , Mark O
    Service car, Ramsay
Sign on, Billy, Charlie, Paul C
    Marshall 1, Colin
    Marshal 2,3,4, unfilled
1aid, combination of Kay and Colin

Hoping we get some more people who can help out on the day so the boy racers can race! Time requirement for marshals is 9.30am to 12.15pm.

    Thanks

Ramsay reacted to P McDonald in ULTIMATE ARRAN CHALLENGE 11th or 18th May
Here's a warmer for a winters night. Set yourself an ambitious target!!! Our very own gran fondo proportioned challenge.
It's the ultimate Arran Challenge ( until the next one )
    The Challenge
2 laps of island between 2 ferries. 7am ferry Saturday. Target return 13.50 ferry. 1st lap full circuit, 2nd lap takes a 4 mile shortcut. But it does go over the Ross which is a substantial climb.
Effective ride time between ferries is 5h35m. If allow for one x 5 min stop then 5.5 hrs for the 106 miles = 19.3 mph average.
    The Rules of Engagement
Participants to be familiar with route and short cut options.
Do not stop for punctures, those unfortunate to puncture take short cut to rejoin or ride in reverse to meet up again. With exception of last 30 miles when there is no short cut option where we wait to finish as a team.
One 5 min stop after first lap to refill bottles, buy coke etc.
Participants can join for all or part of the adventure.
Pace will be kept on or just above the average required.
Will be a balls out job for 5.5 hours.
If interested then get your oar in early with preferred date.
Be prepared for a possible miss of return ferry so all day pass required.

Finally this is doable. I have done the single lap with Alan, Fergus and Davie B and another time as a 2 up with David T ( that one was borderline insane )
