george and mac bagel were clearly overwhelmed by my generous offer to buy their coffee and bun. I mean man flu and Andrew Marr what pitiful excuses for a wimp out..
myself Darryl Alan Hugh and Chung had a great ride along the track to glengarnock then on to the Barrmill circuit for a lap and a half then back to lochwinnoch for a well deserved coffee.
I hope you ladies will be fit to join us next week

    All,

Apologies it has taken a while, but we are now up and running with the lending of the 5 track bikes the club now has (60cm, 56cm, 54cm, 52cm and 50cm).

This lending is strictly for fully paid up "first claim" JWCC club members only. The lending period will be per calendar month on a first come/first served basis, with no "block booking" allowed. Adults will be asked for a £10 donation towards the upkeep and maintenance of the bikes, whereas juniors/youths will get them for free.

Adults will need to sign and return (email will be accepted) a "disclaimer", and parents/guardians will need to do this on behalf of all juniors/youths. There will be no exceptions to this.

There will also be a log book that goes with each bike, where the person receiving the bike signs to say they have received it in working condition and the person handing it over signs to say it was in good condition when handed over.

The bikes come with two cogs and no pedals. When changing the cogs (if needs be), fitting the pedals and adjusting the bars/saddle/seat post, please do it carefully and with the correct tools. If in doubt, please get a qualified bike mechanic (such as Dooleys Cycles) to do this, as we do not want the bikes or the bolts/threads to be damaged for future users.

We realise that the bikes will be subject to wear and tear, and that accidents do happen, therefore, please be honest and let me know if something needs fixed or replaced.

Thanks again have to go to Dooleys Cycles, SportScotland, Renfrewshire Council and the Johnstone Sports Hub for the funding for the bikes.

I hope all make good use of these bikes and enjoy.

    Cheers,
Ramsay (on behalf of the Committee)

P.S. - I have been advised that the bikes do appear on the small side for their size. i.e. - the 56cm is a bit smaller that a 56cm road frame, and I personally ride a 58cm road frame, but the 60cm track bike fits me. Happy to let people see them for size.

Just finished it and its certainly an eye opener...unless you don't believe him!
As much as I kind of thought most folk were at it, it's still surprising!

Might have to borrow David Millar's from you Phil.

    UPDATE - IT IS POSSIBLE
There are 2 slots available before Christmas. Sun 23rd either 3-4pm or 4-5pm.
I propose 4pm - 5pm as it would seem less intrusive later in day. Need a quick response one way or other - just as useful to know if any of the regulars can't make it.
If I can get 15 replies by say Thursday then I will get it booked (if still available).
Work up an appetite for Christmas dinner

I have politely persisted with the velodrome to see if the Sunday morning booking is possible. Best I got was an email reply to say not possible at that time and not possible that day.
Basically you have to just keep submitting a form with selected time but without any idea of when it might be available.
A tad frustrating but won't complain as it is a fantsastic facility and its early days for the booking processes etc,

    Hi,

I have started this topic "Pothole Watch" on the Bunch Forum because if the AA can use members to report poor road conditions and potholes, then so can the Johnstone Wheelers. It should give a warning to other cyclists following this topic, of a poor stretch of road. I will forward all reports to the council in an effort to get road faults repaired as soon as possible. In addition, once it is reported, the council have a duty to make the road safe and if they fail to do that in quick time then they are liable for vehicle, including bike, breakages and personal injury. You can also leave your report at my Facebook page
    www.facebook.com/councillormaclaren

Please leave as much detail as possible so that the defect can be found and repaired. For any photos, please send to my email address:

    [email protected]

    Thanks,
    James MacLaren

The true answer to this question was subject of a doctorate study by Sir Stephen Hawkings, the eminent physicist and author of the breakthrough text 'A Brief History of Time (trialling)'
Many years of measurement and analysis took account of such factors as,
    - what way is the wind blowing and how strong is it
    - do you need a piddle
    - how big are the guys whose wheel you can hing
    - will they wait at the top of W Kilbride drag
    - how gubbed are you really
    - would a can of coke and 4 Turkish delights make a difference
    - will anyone shout at you for not taking a spell
    - are you riding campag or shimano
    - are you on a carbon frame
    - what colour is your bike

When first published the headline conclusion shook the traditional world of theoretical physics to its very core,

6 OF ONE, HALF A DOZEN OF THE OTHER
