  1. Was certainly an epic one, hope not to have a repeat anytime soon. Ligaments are still bad news. Hats of Colin for carrying on. If you were a horse I would probably have shot you. See you next week

  2. Lovely day for an eventful ride to Largs. I think we had 4 punctures, followed by Glen’s carbon rim failing on the Fairlie Moor road. This could have been very serious but thankfully no-one was hurt. If riding carbon rims with rim brakes do check them for wear from time to time. I suppose you can’t always tell but seeing the mess of his wheel and reflecting on how serious it could have been, it is better to err on the side of caution. This would normally have been enough to warrant calling the ride ‘eventful’ but there was another more serious event. Colin and Gary Dunn came down on the main road to Largs. Colin was bloodied but able to continue. Gary was not so ‘lucky’ and could not ride due to a suspected broken collar bone and had to ‘call a friend’. I’ll post an update on Gary when I hear anything. Happy Easter folks!

  3. Garry has damaged shoulder ligaments but nothing broken. Bike ok, more importantly.

  4. Glad. to hear you made it back Alan. Graham, Al, Carol and myself headed back Blair Road then turned up towards the Barmill circuit and back to Barmill,Hessilhead,Rocky Road and down Bowfield. It was good to sit outside at the Mill and they even provided a new table umbrella for us. The Wheelers photo is still on the menu and the rolls in bacon and scrambled eggs together with the homebaking make this a must visit for all JWCC members. Dave

  6. Utterly brilliant day on Arran and 3 new members of the SA Hall of Fame. Fantastic, and many congrats to SA Rookies Sam McGrath, Colin Sales and Alan Hendry, who were joined by seasoned SA vets Jan McTavish, Mark Kelly, Andy Gumley and myself. So 7 started as a team and 7 finished as a team. Also took all the rankings from 2nd to 6th or something on the Strava segment. This was a rarer anti clockwise assault due to the predicted wind, however there was near zero wind all day. Very smooth paceline with much encouragement in evidence. Lots of resurfaced roads helped and I reckon this could be a year for records. Still some pretty grisly bits mind you. Weather was probably the best I have ever seen on Arran and I have been there a lot! Truly heaven on earth. So now you have a taste guys, set your sights on the Grand Daddy of them all - the DA in August. As I may have said somewhere before, this is a monumental and life changing experience that you will regale your grandchildren with, you will have it engraved on your gravestone, you will forever remember the single biggest day of your life. You will feel immortal. To round it all off me and Jan rode over the Ross to meet my two girls at the Velo café, then clung on to their wheels to get back for the 1.55pm ferry as we were both tank empty status. 86 miles and 2,000m of ascent made for a fantastic day out.

  9. Lads, are you still passing Kilmacolm at 7.25 to 7.30am, if so I will join you down to Wemmys bay. Will likely turn off at Spango up Loch Thom then Fairlie Moor if anyone else up for an early morning run. Coffee stop optional.

  10. I was really enjoying that today, when my freehub started getting completely free in either direction, meaning no drive. Cue a call to the recovery wagon, aka Mrs. T. Naturally, once I made the call it started working again, so at least I was able to cycle back to the mill to wait for a lift home, and get on with some spannering.

  11. Did a solo sunny ride which ended the same as the main bunch route. I didnt expect to meet bunch at the start of Fairlie Moor as they started ride earlier then mine, but it seems they had a few punctures on the way. Said hello and just worked my way up the rather large stringed bunch until I passed them. Havent seen the crashes but hope all is okay. With wind in the right direction thought I would give the Brisbane Glen segment a go. Went up the hilly bit nice and steady and was planning to put the hammer down halfway through the segment. Just as I did that round a corner and a big pot hole across the whole road! With limited time I just chose a path and went for it but back wheel hit a steep bit of the hole and got a pinch puncture (second one this week!). Chucked it after that and continued with a steady pace to home. Before puncture was just under 2 mins down on KoM so could have squeaked in the top ten.

  12. Great day out. Found anti clockwise harder than clockwise. Probably says more about my weight and lack of fitness though. Going up the Ross afterwards was supremely tough. Blew up at the bottom and started cramping half way up - it took me over 30 minutes for the climb at an average cadence of 38 rpm

  13. Last time i rode this route it was under £10 in total for the 3 ferries as a passenger with bike. Single to rothesay was under 5, single to colintraive about 1.20 then if you go into the newsagent just before you take the left hand turn to go past the holy loch you can get a cheap western ticket there - a return there it is cheaper than a single when buying on the ferry. They will let you split the ticket too so only 1 needed.
