2023 Subscriptions George Posted February 7, 2017 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 7, 2017 Be prepared for more daft questions: So I have clincher tyres, I know purists say tubs are best for cross but I'm not investing until I know this doesn't go the same way as my stellar but blink & you'll miss it track career (my sprint is invisible to the naked eye & all but the most accurate power meters) So tyre pressure for nicking about up the top of the glennifer braes? What is roughly the correct pressure that balances between being able to grip & cracking a rim on the slightest bump?
alexb
Depends on conditions. Drop to 50-60psi and see how it feels, then reduce bit by bit from there. I'm sure I was down at 30 occassionally, but the eventual ride on the road was "tyre"some. Ahem.
2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted February 7, 2017 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 7, 2017 Geo, I think * I have used about 50 psi up the braes, * no liability accepted for punctures, broken rims or sore legs,
2023 Subscriptions XXX Posted February 7, 2017 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted February 7, 2017 George Easy bit is if muddy you need low pressure the lower the better I always had too much and slid about in the mud would go for about 45 and see how it goes

Committee Alan McLean Posted February 9, 2017 Committee Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 I don't think you'd crack a rim unless you hit a completely unexpected submerged brick at full speed or similar but the risk is pinching. for fun on braes I suggest you don't want to feel your rims at all which is probably around 40-50.
