Stupid question, but put new wheels on bike but can not get brake blocks lined up with braking surface, the blocks are below the surface, how do i get the brakes in the right place as they are at the top of the slot on the calipers.Do i need spacers on the brake bolts ? Also they are cheap brakes

Billy
If you have a standard road frame and wheels then I suspect you have long drop callipers with an extra few mls clearance for use with mudguards.
If this is the case you probably need new brakes. (If the bike is not built up then it may be cheaper buying a new winter frame with guard clearance.)
Alternatively you could try to reverse drop bolts http://sheldonbrown.com/home-drop.html but I have looked for these and not found any even on geeky bike sites. These bolts are used to increase rather than decrease brake reach but might work in reverse.
Alan

Cheaper to buy a new frame than new brake calipers? Am I missing something?
Alan, either you're getting frames at great prices, or you're being done when you buy brakesets. Either way, let us know where you shop.
cheers
M

Slightly disingenuous, Mr McLean. I see your frame at one hundred pounds and ninepence, but it does require an optional extra at fifty-one pounds ninety-five, namely a pair of fork blades. No place to put those nice 6600 calipers otherwise!
(PS, the brakes are out of stock anyway.)
or try CRC: Shimano Sora £8, Campag mirage £12. post free!

To cut a long story short I bought new brakes for winter bike due to Campag brakes packing in. Cheap brakes worked but on limit with old wheels however bought campag vento reaction wheels and could not get brakes to line up with rim. i have now decided to buy another set of brakes to keep me on the road, thanks for the help
